In January, the federal government released its revised edtech plan that lays down its hope for a future that delivers on effective instruction for students. The plan separates technological divides — barriers that block some students from full participation — into access, design and use. It’s intensified the long-standing desire to deliver a truly inclusive education system. But with evaporating funds, will those hopes be dashed or delayed? I have BEEN saying this for the last decade, and educators in the classroom along with CTO’s say it OFTEN! It’s refreshing and validating because accountability partners/ monitors of our K12 EdTech ecosystem identifies it here. UNFORTUNATELY, SOME EdTech companies are just “hardware technology pushers”…very transactional 🙄💰! SMH!🤦🏽 They are ill-informed, poorly equipped, and out of touch with the needs of what we need in our schools for STUDENTS, TEACHERS, and LEADERS. But…what do I know? 👀🤷🏾 I just have first hand experience and an actual track record in doing the work and making the measurable changes, and visible impact in K12 EdTech and Education that spans nearly 2 decades.🥱😉 Anyway, here’s a quote from the EdSurge article that speaks loudly and aligns with what I’m putting down that I hope you pick up. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 “It’s a mindset shift we need in education right now,” Jones says. “In a way, it’s a shift to recognize another aspect of the digital divide in America: the quality divide when it comes to implementation of edtech, which arises because all this new technology isn’t necessarily being put to the best use in classrooms.” #K12Education #EdTech #Implementation #ProfessionalLearning #TellingAintTraining 🗣️❌ #Accountability #ProgressMonitoringNeeded #OngoingSupport #IntegrateTechIntoCurriculumAndProfessionalLearning #HollaAtMe #Hiring #EducationalLeadership #Ai

The U.S. Department of Education has unveiled its revised national edtech plan, marking a significant update since 2016. With a strong emphasis on tackling the "quality divide" in edtech implementation, this plan charts a path towards more effective use of technology in classrooms. At Scoutlier we have prioritized tackling this divide, and strive to go beyond providing students mere access to technology. Instead, we focus on the effectiveness of that technology in education, and the effects it has on student engagement to evaluate success. By following this plan together, we can ensure equitable access and foster innovative learning experiences for all students. Technology in education: a blessing or a curse? There's no denying that technology has had a negative impact on equity in education. The digital divide continues to grow and inaccessible tech leaves disabled and low-income students at an even greater divide. However, it's also driving positive change. In higher education, for example, it's becoming a valuable tool for addressing equity gaps, despite the growing digital divide. Intentionally inclusive EdTech is helping to expand higher education to those facing financial or geographical barriers. Many students can now attend their dream university remotely, opening them up to students who couldn't relocate to these areas. It also addresses individual learning challenges. Personalised learning allows educators and students to tailor education to their needs, maximising students' chances of success by allowing them to learn in a way that suits them. For all the harm it can do, technology is still shaping lives for the better and it's time we acknowledged that. #PersonalisedLearning #EdTech #EducationEquity #Education
