It's nearly election day, and parties are making their last-ditch efforts to sway floating voters. 🗳️ For those looking to boost their brand's profile and weigh in on the policies that matter to them, there is a window of opportunity right now – but there are potential pitfalls, too. So, to lend a hand, CRC's put together our three top tips on managing your PR and comms during election week. 1️⃣ Keep it relevant – align your messaging with the issues that are top of mind for voters. That way you can make sure your brand's voice adds value to the conversation, rather than just adding to the noise. 2️⃣ Keep it respectful – the general election is a highly sensitive time and often wrought with controversy. While we'd never encourage shying away from criticism when it's the most appropriate response, engage in discussions thoughtfully and with nuance to maintain a positive brand image and avoid alienating key stakeholders. 3️⃣ Keep it consistent – ensuring that your messaging stays in line with your core values builds trust and credibility with your audience, boosting your brand reputation. #generalelection #PR #electionweek

A little election night humor for my fellow PR pros who've heard nothing but 'circle back after the elections' for the past few months... This poem is a collab between me and AI 😊 'Twas the night of election, when all through PR land, We refreshed every outlet, phones clutched in our hand; The pitches were queued in our drafts with great care, Knowing tomorrow the press might finally care; The media mavens were glued to their screens, While vote counts and margins consumed all their means; And I in my office, reviewing our slate, Of stories held hostage by this polling-day wait; For months its been hard to capture attention, While most pitches were met with the same apprehension: "We're focused on midterms," they'd kindly reply, As our client news gathered dust with a sigh; No product launch mattered, no CEO quote, Could compete with the stories of who got the vote; Our thought leadership pieces, our survey stats too, All paled in comparison to election news brew; But hope springs eternal in PR hearts tonight, As we watch the results scroll in black and white; For soon it will end, this electoral pause, And journalists' inboxes will open their doors; The lifestyle reporters will welcome our calls, Business writers will answer, one and all; Hospitality stories will flourish, health news will thrive, As regular coverage comes back alive; So we polish our pitches with renewed delight, Knowing soon they'll see daylight beyond this big night; And I heard our team whisper, as we watched the last call, "Tomorrow brings normalcy, news space for all!" For this is our world, in PR we know well, When big stories break, our pitches must dwell; But soon it will pass, and when voting is through, We'll send newsworthy angles to drive stories anew!

Dread, avoidance, and confusion … those were the overwhelming themes among communications leaders as they prepare (or aspire to prepare!) for the 2024 election. Over the past few weeks, we surveyed dozens of #communications leaders about how they’re planning to communicate around the 2024 #election (spoiler alert: half haven’t started planning). Check out our findings – including recommendations for how to prepare – and a big thank you to Eleanor Hawkins at Axios and Nicole Schuman at PRNEWS for covering our findings. https://lnkd.in/gZspfNzj

We’re at the tail end of what has been a truly unprecedented election cycle with many lessons learned from a strategic communications standpoint. While we wait for the elections results to roll in this week, we’ll share our top three lessons that reinforce the importance of a best-in-class communications strategy. Lesson 1: Meet people where they’re at. Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, appeared on Fox News on August 20 to address a number of political issues, from President Biden withdrawing from the race in July to crime rates across the country, specifically in Chicago. Following a clip of a Democratic voter in Chicago who felt that Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t have a plan to address issues within his community, Pete responded, “A plan has been released, but it’s our job to communicate that to every voter.” In another interview on The Daily Show, Pete spoke about how he reached a new audience with opposing viewpoints by appearing on Fox News. “What is the point of having a conversation if you aren’t speaking to people who don’t already agree with you?” Regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum, this election cycle reminded us that any best-in-class communications strategy requires a clear understanding and plan of how and where to reach all of your stakeholders with messaging that addresses what they really care about. For company executives, it isn’t enough to stay in a bubble and only communicate to stakeholders and investors who already know who you are and agree with you. In order for your messaging to reach all potential stakeholders, you need to understand and utilize different mediums, media outlets, and social media platforms to meet people where they’re at. #Communications #Elections #Strategy

This upcoming Election Day has sparked a wave of reminders for social media professionals to be cautious about their content sharing. One thing I'd like to add is: if you are covering the election, ensure your content is fact-based. We might be quick to share the latest breaking news but my philosophy is: wait for the facts and report accurately. Here at 1440, we rely on our stellar editorial team to set the tone and pace for what that looks like. And as always, take care of yourself. If that means turning off notifications, letting your direct manager know you're struggling, it's okay to be vocal, especially this week. #Election #ElectionDay #SocialMedia #Contentmarketing #Marketing #SocialMediaTips
