In partnership with Amani Austin, founder of Austin Advocates With, and Katie Winters of Insight for Action, we’ve developed a set of principles and tools for centering equity in evaluating the impact of our programs. To spread the practice of equitable evaluation with our wider network, we’ve shared our process, a case study, and learnings in a written brief, along with a webinar and toolkit now available on our website. At the Golden Bottle Trust (GBT), the Hoare family uses a philanthropic profiling tool called Care4Most (www.care4most.org) to establish which causes mean the most to family members. Recently, the GBT’s focus on environmental projects intensified, with the funding target rising from 11% in 2018 to 20% in 2022. To maximise its impact, the GBT partnered with Impatience Earth to develop an 'ecosystem granting' strategy. This approach uses multiple smaller grants to address the interconnected nature of environmental issues, supporting solutions from the planting and preservation of seagrass to regenerative agriculture. 🚨 Research note of the WEEK! 🚨 Rethinking volunteering as a natural resource 📄 The article focuses on redefining the concept of volunteering as a natural resource. It proposes to break down this concept into three distinct volunteer resources, each with its own characteristics and dynamics. The paper aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of volunteering and its various forms and dynamics. The key concept is that volunteering can be understood as a human-made, renewable resource that can be grown and recycled. The concept of volunteering is compared to a natural resource and suggests that as a result, better management of volunteering is required to manage this ‘resource’. ✒Author(s): Stephanie Koolen-Maas (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Lucas Meijs (Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam), Philine van Overbeeke (Erasmus University) and Jeffrey Brudney† (University of North Carolina) 📝 The Research note is written by Megan Burgoyne from The CEV-Centre for European Volunteering . 🔔 More research notes! Our refreshed strategy for 2024 is now live ✨ Last year we created a 3-year strategy (2023-2026) with the plan to reflect and update on the strategy each year. We've taken some time to reflect on the new context in 2024, such as upcoming elections and economic concerns, and feedback from our members. We also thought about which activities we should continue, develop or start and how to make these activities more useful to all of you. Our work spans across these work pillars and you can read on to see how we’ve updated our plans for each one: 1️⃣ Expanding environmental philanthropy 2️⃣ Improving the effectiveness of environmental funding 3️⃣ Supporting those that do environmental work to be more effective https://buff.ly/3VTGkRT #strategy #planning #philanthropy #funding

Just wanted to share some good news and ask the community for a favor. The good news is that with a lot of help from you and God's magic, reTHink, Inc. paid off the mortgage and the organization completely owns the building and we won't have to worry about the monthly rent/mortgage. Which is wonderful because we are a very low budget organization and this was the board's priority. Fundraising is hard but our community supported us enough that we could finish the payments in 2.5 years. Thank you, Terre Haute and everybody who has ever supported the organization in any capacity. This was also possible because we don't have much paid staff and our organization mostly runs on volunteers. Now I need a favor. We need our community to use this resource to help us educate our children about the environment. If you have children, or if you have any association with after school programs, please consider bringing your youth to reTHink, Inc. for educational experience. We could also come to your place. Let's collaborate. I could be biased but in my humble opinion, no education is complete without environmental education, especially science education. Science is first and foremost learning about the environment. Not just learning to exploit it for short term gains. In my opinion the success of an organization is measured by how much impact it can create, not how big of the budget it has. reTHink, Inc. is capable of creating a lot more impact and help the community but only if there is willingness to partner from other organizations. Please use reTHink, Inc. a resource to help educate children, not just bring your plastic. reTHink is actually not a recycling facility. It is primarily an educational organization but we also want to empower our community to take action and help people in reducing waste. That's why there is a zero-waste store and the plastic up-cycling center. Our community gardens are outdoor classrooms. Our building is a community space. Please use this resource and let's make Terre Haute cleaner and healthier and empower our children with the tools they can use in life. www.wabashrethinks.com

April is the month to celebrate our planet and take action to protect it. However, I fully recognize that getting to care for and talk about environmental sustainability issues is a privilege for those who have economic sustainability. Knowing this privilege, FRG uses its resources and power in the community to carry out initiatives like donating meals to those in need to combat food insecurity, partnering with local organizations like BREADCOIN, partnering with DC public schools to host culinary interns to further their careers in a discipline they love, and more. For us, sustainability is a year-round and all-encompassing effort. #sustainability #earthmonth #economicsustainability #environmentalsustainability
