World's Happiest Software Engineer

Who's my hero? Non-native English speaking programmers! I can't imagine the difficulty of - reading dense, technical documentation, - reading a code-base (with all its variables and functions), or - communicating technical concepts ALL in another language! And that's ON TOP OF having to actually learn a programming language as well Good heavens - my heart goes out to you ❤️ #programming #coding #softwareengineering

Wow! I have read your post and suddenly made a great conclusion! Before this post I was quite unable to realize how english-speakers actually suffer from writing code on their native language!! Ok, may be it's not true like I have been imagining, but I remembered my first experience with 1C programming language.. (Who doesn't know - it's a Russian software package for accounting purposes). "Writing code on Cyrillic encoding??? Screw it! Who the hell invented such abomination??" :P

Learn English alone it’s a work very difficult, but not impossible, today exist a lot of free materials online that make this a dream possible

As a non-native English speaker programmer, I have more difficulty to pronounce tough, though, thought, through, thorough and throughout than all the difficulties that you listed together. Vocabulary you can google the meaning or, as the last resort, use Google translator.

I think that there are many many many other things in the world other than programming. Non native speakers who have to do any kind job in English are heroes. I am not a native English speaker, and most of the difficulties I've ever had coding were not related to knowing English or not

It is indeed a complex task. And what is funny about that is sometimes I struggle quite a bit to explain to people who do not speak English without using English terms 😅

This is a great point..The tech world is losing out on the absolute brilliant minds by creating language barriers. Imagine the field of mathematics without the contributions of nonEnglish speaking minds throughout history. I found one of the best aspects of Java was that you could write code in your native language.

That is why I always suggest to people that want to go into programming to learn at least the basics of English

Not easy, but it is doable, I confess that it got easier when I moved to an English speaking country.
