As #UKCharityWeek draws to a close, today we're celebrating volunteers! On #VolunteersDay, our Chief Financial Officer Stuart Fenlon shares why he volunteers coaching children's teams at his local rugby club... 1️⃣ Passion for the sport: I love the game of rugby, I used to play in my youth for the very same club I now coach and it’s a great way to stay involved in the game, sharing my understanding and enthusiasm with others. 2️⃣ My boys: Like a number of volunteers, I picked up the coaching reins as both of my boys were really enjoying playing the sport at an early age, which allowed me to spend time with them doing something we all enjoyed. Being able to share in the experiences of beautiful sunny days as well as pouring rain or snow – knowing we were going through it together – was a great bonding opportunity. 3️⃣ Impacting young lives: Coaching can make a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly young people, and I've seen this work first-hand. As a coach, I have the opportunity to influence the development and growth of all the players on the team, helping them build on their own personal skills utilising the shared rugby values of 'Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship', which serves them well both on and off the field. 4️⃣ Personal growth: Coaching in many ways can be challenging. You have to develop your own skills as a coach and a leader (or herder of cats with 25 seven-year-olds running riot!). It requires a great degree of dedication, discipline, patience and thought, which has helped develop a number of my own personal skills.

The skills parents value the most for their children, at #2, swimming. 🎩 off to GLL and Better for putting this valuable piece of research together. A 2000-person survey is a good sample size for meaningful results. 👏
We have had lots of media activity on this over the past week as we enter #drowningpreventionweek Many people remember their version of learning to swim at School, some fondly with memories of swimming in PJ's and picking a brick up from the deep end, others not such a great experience due to a fear of water. Thousands of School Chilidren now enjoy and benefit from lessons with us that ensure children learn to love and respect water for life. However Schools are more increasingly unable to provide adequate provision for pupils to achieve National Curriculum requirements. This research shows Parents feel it is still one of the most valuable skills that thier Child can learn. https://lnkd.in/e7GxPpJ2 Let's get this back on track #SwimmingAlliance #funding #betterneverstops

In 1934, Germiston High School Rowing Club (GHSRC) was born, and for 90 years, we've been fostering teamwork, discipline, and passion for rowing. This milestone year, we face an unprecedented challenge. Our primary funding source, school fees, has plummeted to a record low, threatening our very existence. Despite this setback, we're determined to celebrate our 90th year in style. We want to attend the prestigious Boat Race in Port Alfred, a tradition we've maintained since 2013, with only two exceptions. But with our approved budget slashed from R192,000 to R65,000, we're already R12,000 over budget. As a co-ed school, our costs are higher, but we wouldn't trade our inclusive spirit for anything. We've always found a way to make it work, but this year, we need your help. The Ask: We're not just rowing for ourselves; we're rowing for our legacy. We're rowing for the generations of rowers who came before us and those who'll follow. We're rowing to ensure our club reaches its 100th year in 2034, regardless of the school's financial situation. Objectives: 1. Raise funds for Boat 2024 and our 2024/25 rowing session. 2. Cover essential costs, including fuel for coaching and transportation to regattas. 3. Secure our club's future beyond this season. How You Can Help: 1. Donate to our campaign. 2. Share our story with your network. 3. Offer fundraising ideas or expertise. 4. Partner with us to ensure our club's long-term sustainability. Contact: Coach Ricky Rikhotso: (+27) 068-746-8810 Let's Row Together: Join us in celebrating 90 years of Germiston High School Rowing Club's excellence. Your support will help us overcome this challenging period and ensure our club's continued success. https://lnkd.in/dFwyaRSd

## Help Me Make a Splash as a Swimming Teacher! ### My Story Since I was young, I have found joy and freedom in the water. The pool has been my sanctuary, a place where I can clear my mind and push my physical limits. Over the years, I have seen the transformative power of swimming—not just as a sport, but as a life-saving skill that builds confidence and promotes health and well-being. ### Why I Need Your Help To turn my passion into a profession, I need to complete a certified swimming instructor course. This comprehensive training will equip me with the skills and knowledge to teach people of all ages and abilities how to swim safely and confidently. However, the cost of the course, materials, and certification fees is more than I can afford on my own. That’s why I’m reaching out to you. ### The Impact of Your Donation Your generous contribution will help cover: - **Course Fees:** Comprehensive training to ensure I am fully prepared to teach. - **Materials:** Books, manuals, and other essential resources. - **Certification Fees:** Official certification that allows me to work as a swimming instructor. - **First Aid Training:** An important component to ensure I can provide immediate assistance in emergencies. By supporting my GoFundMe campaign, you are not just helping me; you are contributing to a community effort to teach essential life skills. Every penny brings me closer to my goal of making swimming accessible and safe for everyone. ### How You Can Help 1. **Donate:** Any amount, big or small, will make a significant difference. 2. **Share:** Spread the word by sharing my GoFundMe page with your network. ### Thank You! I am deeply grateful for your support and belief in my dream. With your help, I can dive into this new chapter of my life and make a positive impact in my community. Let’s make a splash together. https://gofund.me/a30faefd

Oxford Amateur Rowing Club, formerly the Oxford Academicals Rowing Club (Accies) is an inclusive community that helps make rowing accessible to as many people as possible! Their latest fundraising campaign is for the foundation of a new boathouse (Site surveys, architectural designs, planning fees, and ground works). How you can play your part: There are five simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality. 1. Make a pledge. Whether it's £10 or £1,000 or more (!), we're grateful for any step that helps us get closer to our goal of securing a permanent club home. 2. Sponsor. Could you connect us with a company willing to be a sponsor for our club? We would carry their logo on our website. 3. Spread the word. The more people who know about us, the more chance we have of reaching our target, so please share our crowdfunding page on social media. 4. Offer. Could your business make a donation of rewards we can offer our funders? We will give you a shout out! 5. Fundraise for us. If you have an idea for fundraising on our behalf – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea! https://lnkd.in/euJGRDca

I know from experience how tricky crowdfunding can be. These guys are doing such important work, tackling emissions and environmental sustainability in running and really paving the way for other sporting organisations. If you're a runner and you care about the planet and the future of your children and grandchildren (or those of your friends' if you are child free) then take a look at what TGR are doing and what they hope to achieve with this funding.
What we do with the 24 hours in our day is what defines us. Running Ambassador at WOLO and Running coach focussed on reducing our carbon footprint. Published Ode writer. Co founder of Pair Ups and The Green Runners.
Yesterday The Green Runners launched their Crowdfund. See link below. Since starting up in April 2022, The Green Runners has been volunteer led by a core team of individuals like myself. We now need some funding for the next stage of our journey. Please check out the link below to see what we have achieved so far and what we want to do in the future. Thank you for reading and please share where you can. 🙏🏻 Julia Davies Crowdfunder UK Running Industry Alliance (RIA) & The Running Conference (TRC) Michael Doughty https://lnkd.in/enSVSFjY
