🌍🌻 Today is World Earth Day and this year’s EARTHDAY.ORG theme is plastic. The detergents and cleaning products industry have been promoting "A.I.S.E. voluntary initiative on plastic packaging” which aims to increase the uptake of recycled content in plastic packaging over the next few years. As part of this initiative, the industry committed to the following goals by 2025: - The target of a minimum of 20% volume of recycled plastic material in the packaging of all household products in the A.I.S.E. portfolio; - Ensuring that all plastic packaging for household products can be recyclable, reusable, or compostable. This initiative has been a step for the industry, following the successful delivery of impactful projects over the last 20 years to drive sustainable production, design, and consumption for the whole of the industry sector. 🧴🧼🧺 Indeed, the first target of the packaging initiative surpassed already, with 25% recycled plastic material used by members of the initiative in 2022. It will be of particular interest to coffee chains and large cafe outlets that use high volumes of milk, and tough targets to reduce their plastic use. It's a packaging, delivery and dispensing solution that eliminates single use plastic milk bottles altogether and significantly reduces milk waste through the convenient 'milk-on-tap' system. Did you know 9.9 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced since the 1950s? One of the facts about packaging waste is that plastic is the single worst type of non-recyclable packaging. SINGLE USE PLASTICS ELIMINATED! We've been working to remove the final piece of single use plastic we had in our own process - the bottle label - and finally we've achieved it. It's taken time to source a sustainable alternative that's both affordable for a small business and continues to demonstrate our brand through its quality, with many apparent options seemingly greenwashing. Having delved into the detail, and researched the background of several options, we've settled on this new material that's also recyclable. Its biodegradable and compostable adhesive even enables the label to be soaked off when necessary. Produced primarily from marble quarry waste, it was the only label we found that enables us to replace our Polypropylene label with a great quality, sustainable alternative.
