As one of the Polish @RM_Ambassadors 🇵🇱, I was happy to provide detailed information on RM ROADMAP to the Polish community of #RMAs. We gathered last Friday in Gliwice within the V4WB Network of Research Managers and Administrators Plus project event. 🔍 Why a focus on RMA in ERA? 📈 Growing need for the professionalization of research management in organizations conducting and funding research, including through digital skills to improve their ability to participate in cooperation networks covering the entire ERA (European Research Area). 🚀 Need to initiate a pilot action concerning a pan-European program for creating networks for science managers, including research infrastructure managers. 💡 How RMA_Roadmap will contribute? 📊 Undertaking standardized actions for RM (Research Management) in Europe. 📚 Terminology and definitions of RM based on co-creation and similar methods. 🌐 Studying the RM environment in individual countries and understanding their needs and capabilities. 🛠 Defining the role and proposing the value of research managers. 🔄 Review of training, creating networks, mobility, and funding opportunities. 📝 Developing an action plan that can introduce changes in resource management to benefit researchers, national research and innovation systems, and the ERA. Ministry of Science and Higher Education we count on Poland finally joining to #Action_17. Team of PL_RM_Ambassadors: Cyprian Tomasik, BEng, PhD Krzysztof Maternicki, RTTP Justyna Łaskowska Enjoy! A good summary of the history of the work which lead to (amongst other things) establishing the principles of Collegiality, Inclusivity, Professionalism, Innovation and Accountability in Research Management (https://lnkd.in/dwXFP2nB).
The eighth of the weekly series of posts about “the book” – The Establishment and History of the International Network of Research Management Societies Elliott Kulakowski https://lnkd.in/eVjyS2hj This final chapter in the History section covers the development of International Network of Research Management Societies – the umbrella association of RMA associations ChatGPT summary of the chapter: The International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS), established in 2001, emerged as a collaborative effort among various international research management societies. With the primary goal of facilitating global research collaboration and administration, INORMS has grown significantly, comprising 21 member societies by 2021. These societies vary in size, focus, and membership composition, reflecting the diverse landscape of research management worldwide. Since its inception, INORMS has played a pivotal role in fostering international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and best practices in research management. Through biennial congresses, networking opportunities, and collaborative initiatives, INORMS has facilitated the professional development of research managers and administrators globally. With increasing specialization in research and growing international collaborations, the role of research managers and administrators is becoming more crucial. INORMS continues to evolve, adapting to the changing needs of the research management community. The success of recent congresses and the anticipation of future events underscore INORMS' significance as the central hub for research management societies worldwide, serving the global research community effectively. Australian colleagues in research management - Y'all need to read this. It's free to access, beautifully researched, and helps contextualise the work we know and love now. Simon Kerridge and team, thanks for this important book!
The forty-eighth of the weekly series of posts about “the book” (The Emerald Handbook of Research Management and Administration Around the World) is on The Emergence of the Research Management Profession in Australia by Campbell Thomson, Tania Tambiah GAICD, Fellow of ARMS, and Mark Hochman https://lnkd.in/efdyaiTW This first Australasian chapter in the Countries section covers RMA in Australia. NotebookLM summary of the chapter: The late 1980s marked a period of significant change for higher education in Australia with the implementation of the Unified National System of Higher Education. This led to the creation of many new universities and a subsequent increase in research funding for the sector. This growth in research funding and activities resulted in the emergence of the modern Research Management Office (RMO) and the establishment of the Australian Research Management Society (ARMS) to support the development of research management professionals. ARMS membership, which includes individuals from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, now exceeds 3,500. ARMS launched a Foundation Level Accreditation Program in 2013 to recognize and develop research management careers. The organization also has Accreditation Programs at Established and Advanced Levels and has developed a Continuing Professional Development framework to help accredited individuals maintain their knowledge, implement good practices, advance their careers, and mentor other RMAs. Over 80% of ARMS members reside in Australia, and most work in universities. The remaining members are employed by independent medical research institutes, as well as government and public sector research agencies. 🌟 Thrilled to Speak at the UKEV Life Sciences Conference 2024! 🌟 I couldn’t be more excited to join this year’s UKEV Life Sciences Conference to explore a topic at the heart of so many challenges professionals face today: Burning Bright Without Burning Out 🔥 Burnout doesn’t discriminate. Whether you’re a driven entrepreneur, a professional balancing intense demands, or a researcher working tirelessly to innovate in your field, the relentless pace can take its toll. In academia and high-pressure industries, the stakes are even higher—complex workloads, tight deadlines, and the weight of impactful outcomes often create the perfect storm for burnout. Studies show that nearly 47% of PhD students experience mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression, driven by excessive pressure. But here’s the good news: burnout isn’t inevitable. With the right tools, we can equip ourselves and our teams to achieve brilliance without sacrificing well-being. During the ECR Day at UKEV, I’ll be sharing insights on: 🔥 Recognising burnout early and understanding its cycles. 🛠️ Practical strategies to build resilience and manage stress effectively. 🚀 Leveraging Energy Leadership to maximise productivity while preserving emotional and physical energy. Burnout prevention is about more than just "self-care Sundays"—it’s about embedding sustainable practices into our daily lives, enabling us to continue doing the important, impactful work we love without losing ourselves along the way. Huge thanks to Rachel Crossland and Sonia Guarnerio for inviting me to be part of this incredible event. If you’re at UKEV 2024, let’s connect and spark meaningful conversations about how to balance brilliance with resilience. 💬 Looking for an engaging speaker to inspire and energise your team or network? Let’s chat! Together, we can build a framework for sustainable success that keeps burnout at bay. 📅 Find out more about UKEV 2024: https://shorturl.at/9jtmj 📩 Or book me for your next event: https://lnkd.in/d3b494KB #UKEV2024 #BurnoutPrevention #Resilience #LifeSciences #EnergyLeadership #ThrivingTeams #PublicSpeaking #FutureProofYourTeams #Performance #Wellbeing

'The #DESCA (Development of a Simplified Consortium Agreement) 2.0 #Consortium #Agreement model was recently published in Brussels, with representatives from the European Commission and various stakeholders from across Europe in attendance. DESCA CA's are specifically designed for collaborative research projects as the "Research and Innovation Actions" and "Innovation Actions" of Horizon Europe. The current DESCA HE 2.0 model includes separate sections and options regarding the use of #lump #sums, and thus considers the growing importance of this funding model in Horizon Europe.' 📢 Request for proposals (RFP) launched for #Arrhenius NAISS and EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) have launched a request for proposals (RFP) for the acquisition, delivery, installation and maintenance of the new supercomputer Arrhenius. It will be placed at Campus Valla, Linköpings universitet, in Linköping, Sweden. The RFP, which is the second stage of the procurement process, is sent to vendors who have passed the qualification round and demonstrated economic and technical capacity to deliver such a system. The total value of the contract (investment and support) and estimated operational cost is EUR 68,5 million for five years. Funding is shared between Vetenskapsrådet / Swedish Research Council via NAISS (65 percent) and EuroHPC JU (35 percent), with each party controlling and allocating the corresponding share of resources. “The growing market demand for AI is driving up prices for high-performance computing (HPC), making it challenging to forecast Arrhenius’ performance accurately. However, we expect it to be in the range of 30-40 petaflops”, says Gert Svensson, NAISS Deputy Technical Director and Arrhenius Project Manager. Arrhenius is set to significantly boost the compute resources available to Swedish researchers and academic users. It will be capable of performing the most advanced simulations in science and technology as well as tasks like artificial intelligence, machine learning and other demanding applications. It will also enable NAISS to provide more diverse storage and cloud access, which will benefit all users. The new system is expected to come online in 2025. It is named after Swedish geologist and chemist Carl Axel Arrhenius who discovered the mineral gadolinite. The deadline to submit a proposal is 31 January 2025, 23:59 CET. #supercomputers #HPC
