As I was celebrating the recognition of my friend, Lilianne G. Chaumont, at the California Alarm Association Spring convention in Palm Springs (well-deserved, Lilianne!), it got me thinking about the good works many of you do in the world. My article in the June edition of The Mirror, How Your Accomplishments Can Elevate Your Business and Attract New Opportunities, addresses those thoughts. I hope you find it thought-provoking too. Check it out and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/gMaQzEcY

We are honored to host Norwegian Professor Morten Tønnessen for the lecture ‘Anthropocene: Alpha and Omega? ‘ tomorrow at 18:00 at Alma Mater in Ljubljana. In the lecture, he will focus on the following questions: - What does the Anthropocene perspective say about humanity's place in nature? - When did human influence begin to overwhelm ecosystems, and when did humans start to have a global environmental impact? - How likely or desirable is it that humans will continue to have such influence? - How can the Anthropocene perspective improve understanding and contribute to solving environmental problems, including the climate crisis? You can also participate online: https://t.ly/wvHLW

Referees, and the references they provide, play a crucial role in helping you land that role/award/academic position you are gunning for. Soliciting references is an important step that's often overlooked in the process. Check out this article for some common sense etiquettes when contacting your referees for references. https://lnkd.in/d9DpSQ88

The concept of Public Speaking has been explained in ways that are different from what it actually is. Myths have now become the norm and these scare the best of us from this beautiful art. Care to learn the truth about the Art of Public Speaking? Save the date as, together, we will demystify, debunk and expose the reality of Public Speaking. https://lnkd.in/dEveCn_f To register, click the link

🎥✨ Exciting News! My inaugural lecture is now available to watch on YouTube! Link below. Here's the abstract: In "The Art of Navigating Uncertainty," Professor Lorenzo Zucca explores the fundamental tension between our desire for certainty and the inherent unpredictability of human life. This tension is illustrated through an analysis of Shakespearean tragic characters like Hamlet, Shylock, and Prospero. Their stories highlight the limitations of philosophy, law, and science when confronted with uncertainty. While these traditional avenues of knowledge are valuable, they often fall short in addressing the unpredictability of human experience. Zucca introduces the concept of Poetic Wisdom as a mode of understanding rooted in creative imagination, empathy, and the acceptance of uncertainty. Inspired by Giambattista Vico and John Keats, this wisdom provides a path beyond rigid rationality, embracing mystery and doubt as essential elements of life. Through poetic expressions, art, and literature, we gain access to deeper truths about our connections with others, the natural world, and ourselves. The lecture culminates in the argument that navigating uncertainty requires a balance between reason and emotion, as well as rational analysis and imagination. In uncertain times, poetry, art, and music serve as tools to engage with the unknown, offering meaningful insights into the human condition. https://lnkd.in/eisxwEFm
