With so much IT now running in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, organisations operate an enormous inventory of security certificates. SSL certificates expire within about 13 months of their issue date. But Google will soon cut the maximum validity for public SSL certificates to 90 days, down from 398 days. This will mean certificates must be renewed four times a year. Ouch. There’s a lot to get right: Identify expiring certificates Request renewals, including internal approvals Re-validate the domain Issue and provision new certificates to end points Revoke prior certificates Automation is the answer When you’re talking about hundreds, and sometimes even thousands of SSL certificates, automated certificate lifecycle management provides a dependable answer.

Traffic tanked, and panic ensued. But, what happened next was a masterclass in recovery. The one lesson I learned when my website traffic suddenly went down for 2 weeks. It took me 9 days to discover and 5 days to recover traffic. Guess what...my website SSL certificate expired. If your website uses an SSL certificate, set an SSL expiration reminder. Most domain name service providers will email you the reminder. You can also use a free SSL monitor service to monitor the expiration of your SSL certificate. If you read this far…🤣 Go check your SSL certificate expiration date and set up a reminder. It is a small mistake with an easy fix. But the price could be huge. Let's learn together.
