Mission Toys for Tots 2024 has been successfully completed! Our team at the Lafayette, LA corporate office joined forces with our very own Ken Green, a retired Marine and current Training Manager for EDS Dispatch Operations Center, to support the United States Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program. The Toys for Tots program helps bring the joy of Christmas and sends a message of hope to America’s disadvantaged children. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause! Hayley Ann Boswell ⭐️This hit me. Our eldest is onto her 7th school and all four of our children have faced challenges with their education due to being Defence Kidz. Thankfully, they have also thrived. As Defence families, we do not get to pick where we live. The amount of times some snarky person on the phone has said to me, "Why didn't you have them on the wait list from birth?" We, as Defence families, don't get that luxury. How about priority of placement for Defence Kidz in ALL childcare centres. Who needs respite more than a Defence spouse doing it solo? How about State School of CHOICE? We don't get to pick where we live, so how about allowing us to pick the State school that best suits our child regardless of catchment area? Small actionable outcomes that would give Defence families a little bit of power to determine the best educational outcomes for their children. These options are already available to at risk children, so the framework is there. How about our Defence Kidz?

Did you know that military children move an average of 6 to 9 times during their Reception-year 12 education? The resilience they exhibit is nothing short of extraordinary. But it's not just about the numbers; it's about the faces behind them. These little faces are the reason we advocate so fiercely and passionately. We recently created this video that perfectly encapsulates the hard times and the celebrations of our defence families, with the photos supplied by our defence community. It's a poignant reminder of why we do what we do. We're not just advocating for policies or benefits; we're advocating for real people, real families, and real lives. As someone deeply involved in this advocacy, I've seen firsthand the difference it can make. From improved educational opportunities to connecting events for veteran families, the changes we fight for have a tangible impact on these families' lives. It's not just about making their lives easier; it's about honouring their sacrifices and ensuring they have the support they deserve. But there's still so much work to be done. As we look to the future, we must continue to push for meaningful change. We must listen to these families, understand their unique challenges, and work tirelessly to address them. So, I ask you, what changes do you think are most needed to support our veteran families? What can we do to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met? Share your thoughts in the comments below. If you found this post insightful or helpful, please give it a like and consider reposting it to spread the word. Together, we can make a difference. #MilitaryFamilies #Advocacy #SupportOurveteranfamilies Kelly Hopkins Prof. Neil Curtis Rochelle Feenan Liam Vernon Rebecca Zanol Miranda Van Hooff

Is it voluntary work if it's mandatory? 💭 The Conservative Party's proposed National Service Plan suggests that all 18-year-olds in the UK should complete a year of community volunteering or military training. The goal is to foster civic duty and national pride. My first thought was: Can mandatory service truly be labeled as 'voluntary' work? What are your thoughts on the impact and implications of this initiative? #NationalService #YouthEngagement #PublicPolicy #Volunteering

As Chief of Protocol, one of my biggest challenges is navigating the tricky waters of gift-giving, especially when it comes to ORF-eligible gifts. And here in Okinawa, it gets even more complicated - giving an Okinawa-made gift to a local would be considered taboo. But yesterday's gift of custom-made, hand-painted sugar cookies was a huge success! Not only did I get to support a USMC spouse's business, but I also found a way to give a food gift that qualified under ORF (which is no small feat). It's moments like these that make me love my job - finding creative solutions to tricky problems and supporting local businesses at the same time. #protocol #giftgiving #supportlocal #supportmilspouses #ORFeligible https://lnkd.in/gXuVHTnz

The Added Benefits the Military Order of World Wars Provides to Local Communities The Military Order of World Wars (MOWW) is a national organization of military officers, active, retired, and former, dedicated to promoting good citizenship, patriotism, and leadership development in local communities. One of the core benefits MOWW brings to these communities is its commitment to fostering leadership skills in youth. Through programs like the Youth Leadership Conferences, the MOWW provides young people with the tools they need to become informed, responsible citizens. These conferences help high school students develop critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills, preparing them to lead within their schools, communities, and eventually in their professional lives. In addition to youth programs, MOWW is heavily involved in community service, giving back through various volunteer initiatives. Members of the organization actively participate in supporting local charities, organizing food drives, and providing assistance to veterans and their families. This hands-on involvement strengthens the social fabric of the communities they serve, ensuring that those in need have access to vital resources. By creating a network of support, MOWW helps improve the overall well-being of both veterans and civilians within the community. Another significant contribution of MOWW is its focus on patriotic education. The organization promotes national values and historical awareness through various public outreach efforts. This includes engaging with schools, civic organizations, and other community groups to educate the public on the importance of citizenship, military service, and the history of the United States. By fostering an informed and engaged citizenry, MOWW helps to build stronger communities that value the principles of democracy and civic responsibility. The MOWW also provides local communities with a connection to the broader network of military officers, allowing civilians to interact with those who have served the country. This helps to bridge the gap between the military and civilian populations, fostering mutual understanding and respect. Through its leadership programs, community service, and educational outreach, the Military Order of World Wars enriches the lives of local citizens while honoring the sacrifices made by military personnel. #MOWW #CommunityLeadership #PatrioticEducation #VeteranSupport #YouthLeadershipDevelopment

Basketball, video games, and volunteering. What do they have in common? Those are some of the things that Airmen stationed at Tyndall AFB connect over. Connection is the #1 factor for preventing not only suicide but all forms of personal and self-directed violence. September is Suicide Prevention Month, but helping people connect is an all-year effort. Those who serve move an average of once every three years. That means being uprooted and placed in a new location with new people. Seeing someone in a sports jersey of a team and striking up a conversation is a way to connect. Or hopping in a video game for an element of competition. Or talking to someone while volunteering — all ways to connect with others. For brands looking to connect with any given segment or audience, creating opportunities for people to connect with each other is also a viable strategy to authentically introduce a brand into the situation. It just means more when the connection is for the military. #MilitaryMarketing #Military #MarketingStrategy
