At AWS, we are committed to fueling developer innovation and productivity. We just released a new inline chat experience with Amazon Q Developer, our GenAI-powered assistant for software development that we think developers will love, detailed in our latest blog. https://lnkd.in/gHcxHeBD
You can now initiate inline chats with Q Developer directly from your code editor to request actions like "Fix," "Document," or "Explain" on specific code blocks. Q Developer will generate an inline diff view, allowing you to quickly accept or decline changes without leaving your editor.
With this new capability, powered by the upgraded Claude 3.5 Sonnet, you can complete tasks efficiently and streamline your development process without needing to switch context between different panels in your IDE. We're continuously enhancing Q capabilities to deliver the most exceptional developer experiences.
Today we're excited to announce Amazon Q Developer In line chart for Visual Studio Code and Jetbrains. Documented. Existing code can be a daunting task, but it's crucial for improving code understanding, onboarding new team members, and facilitating future maintenance. In this case, I have a simple Lambda function that get the metadata from an object and return it as JSON. With Amazon Q Developer inline chat. I just need to press command. I type that I need my code documented and even the documentation API. In my case, Jsdoc, Amazon Q Developer will propose the required change and I just need to accept them or reject them. Once I accept them, I will have a well formatted and readable JavaScript documentation for my project. This process helps ensure my code is well documented, improving its readability and maintainability. Another example is refactoring code. This can be challenging especially when it use outdated practices. However, by leveraging the power of Amazon Q Developer, you can automatically refactor your code to modern standards. In my case, I have a code that used bar that will equal operators and synchronous methods. To refactor this code, I will select the code, press CMD and type that I need to refactor the code using E6 plus syntax and a single wait suggesting. Improvements will be displayed with green highlights and removals in red. Now that I have an improved version of my code, I accept the changes and I'm ready for the next interaction.
Excellent QDev improvement! Recent QDev Agentic Workflow advancements were already amazing, but I didn’t really enjoy the fact that generated code was not proposed as embedded diff. With QDev inline chat this has now come to an end. If you haven’t yet, check out Amazon Q Developer!

I get it: y’all have AI fatigue. And yet I’m going to quip on my personal experience, this time with C#.
Admittedly, I’ve never coded in C# (vs Java), nor I am familiar with specific language constructs.
No biggie! Comes Amazon Q + VSCode.
1. AQ was able to explain code pitfalls.
2. AQ was able to point out memory leaks.
3. AQ recommended (defensive) code changes.
I’ve tried it with defects and stories type of work (new work vs rework).
With no prior experience in programming language, with a bit of formal CS education, and with a bit of brain and logic, and a good peer review!, was able to complete the work in hours vs days.
If you are in the fence or you are already an expert - I get it, you may find it boring and amusing. But don’t pass on it, give it a try, confirm with your own experience what works for you. I guarantee that Amazon Q will cut mundane code boiler plate generation time and basic problem finding time by 50% at least.

This post introduced the updated Amazon Q Developer agent for software development. The agent autonomously implements features that you describe using natural language directly from your IDE. We gave you an overview of how the agent works behind the scenes and discussed its significantly increased accuracy.

I'm preparing PROMPTZ for, hopefully, many great updates around Amazon Q Developer. Let's start with this one: Markdown support. 🖼️
Markdown is often used in either the prompt itself or the how-to field. However, markdown is not rendered when viewing a prompt. Now users can use markdown when submitting new prompts and ensure the output is rendered correctly when viewing or sharing their prompts.
Use Markdown to structure your prompts with lists, quotes, and code blocks as well as external links embedded into the how-to field for additional resources.
Using the copy button, you can copy-paste the markdown into the Amazon Q Developer Chat so that your prompt is rendered correctly within Q Developer.

1moI love inline feature. I use AQ chat panel a lot in VSCode and now being able to have it inline makes it easier to manage everything in one screen!
