I disagree... Who says Teaching is a thankless job? Experiencing the joy of an ex-student sharing their placement news with me has filled my heart with immense gratitude and pride. This moment is a testament to the bonds we create and the impact we have as educators. To all the amazing educators out there, here's how you can build lifelong bonds and cherish every single encounter with your students: - Genuine Care: Show authentic interest in your students' lives and aspirations. Your genuine care will create a strong foundation of trust and respect. - Empathy and Understanding: Be an empathetic listener and strive to understand their perspectives. This helps in creating a supportive and nurturing environment. - Inspire and Encourage: Constantly motivate and inspire your students to reach their full potential. Your belief in them can make a world of difference. - Personalized Attention: Recognize and celebrate their individual strengths and uniqueness. Personalized attention helps in fostering a deeper connection. - Continuous Support: Be their guiding light, not just during their academic journey but also beyond. Continuous support reinforces the bond and shows your commitment. As the famous Japanese educator Tsunesaburo Makiguchi once said, _"The essence of education lies in enabling each individual to contribute to the happiness of others."_ Let’s continue to give our all, building bonds that last a lifetime and cherishing every encounter we have with our incredible students. Feeling truly blessed and honored to be a part of this rewarding journey. 🙏💖 #Gratitude #Education #LifelongBonds #TeachingWithHeart #educationist #mentor #rapportbuilding

✨ Common Sense Isn’t So Common ✨ When it comes to basic conversations and interactions with other people, there’s a common understanding of the etiquette and manners that should be displayed. It still seems to amaze me with the lack of common respect and understanding that a lot of human beings seem to have towards people that aren’t like them or may share differing views. Even though we all come from different backgrounds and walks of life, common sense is something that can’t be taught in our schools or applied in universal curriculums. Stories from history and dozens of mathematic equations can be pounded into our heads, but they cannot teach us the true lessons of life. They can help us become more educated, but true wisdom comes from priceless life experiences and advice from the people that inspire and love us the most. Some people that may drop out of high school or college may be looked at as “failures”, but often their level of knowledge is exactly the same, if not higher. Having “street smarts” or a keen understanding of how peoples’ minds work will get you farther than just learning something for the sake of learning it. I’m not saying to disregard education and improving your knowledge through higher learning. What I’m attempting to convey is that a healthy balance of both is a powerful trait to have. If you’d like to work on your common sense or overall “awareness”, try doing things that scare you or are completely out of your comfort zone. We cannot grow if there is no first step taken. #JoySceizina #commonsense #knowledgeispower

"Hi Neme, can you prepare a child for a spelling Bee competition in a month's time?" My boss texted me, providing details. "Yes, I can," was my immediate response. I've learned never to turn down an opportunity, as it brings experience and builds capacity. We scheduled a session with the learner, whom I had taught before, so she was familiar to me. After our first session, both the learner's parent and my boss expressed concerns: "Do you think she can do it?" My answer remained steadfast: "Yes, she can. Participating will boost her confidence and self-esteem, provide valuable experience, and she'll excel." With only four weeks to prepare and one hour per week, my learner and I pushed forward. With every word spelled, I encouraged her, reinforcing her progress. Despite her doubts, I assured her she'd improve with practice. On competition day, I waited anxiously for updates. Early in the morning, her mom messaged me, "I dey fear, competition day" expressing her nerves. I offered a pep talk to boost confidence. Hours later, amidst teaching, her mom messaged again: "Your girl is on fire! She's made it to the 5th round!" Overwhelmed with pride, I paused teaching to learn more. Eventually, my student made it to the top 10. Her success brought joy to us all. Witnessing a satisfied client is rewarding, but even more so is being a satisfied teacher. This experience reaffirmed my belief in every child's potential. My goal is to nurture well-rounded individuals who believe in themselves. As I often remind them, "You can do all things through Christ that strengthens you." May this serve as a reminder to you too. #mondaymotivation #teachers #inspiration #education

Why I Continue to Teach in Korea.............(when there are other options) In the quiet moments of my teaching career in Korea, I often contemplate my reasons for staying in this demanding yet rewarding field. I’ve realized that... 1. Influence through Understanding: Like the professors who once inspired me, my goal is to impact my students positively. This doesn't come from telling them what to do, but from meaningful conversations about what we value in life and why. 2. Passion for Progress: I remain committed to my role because I see the potential for growth—not just in my students, but in my teaching methods. Embracing new ideas and technologies keeps my approach fresh and effective - well sometimes it does not work..so I try and try with different ways for each student, trust me.. 3. The Value of Immaterial Rewards: Teaching has reaffirmed that the most significant rewards are not always material. The joy of seeing a student succeed, the satisfaction of a lesson well-discussed!— well, what a great day! 4. Dreams Realized: Every day, I see small dreams achieved—students understanding a complex concept, gaining confidence, or planning their futures. It's a constant reminder that I need to keep working on my work ! #TeachingInKorea #ESLTeacher #EducationMatters #ProfessionalReflections #RealizingPotential #LifeInTeaching

Acha... Voh College toh aisa hi hain! Translation: That's just an average college. Hey People! Ever heard of the above line? It might have been used by our parents, friends, relatives, and strangers. You ignore it once but it keeps on coming; it keeps on making you low and depressed. And I am not saying this just for the DU people, but for all the folks out there. During my first year, I had this insecurity about my college and I won't lie it used to make me super angry 😅 North...South this that.... And I was like... I mean... Am I not talented? Am I not smart? Am I not hardworking? And for all these questions, I had just one picture on my mind. The big pile of books I had 😊 I realised that my efforts were 100% and that's what matters in life. I never regret my score in class 12th because I gave my 100% I tried my best and that's what matters in life. We are all so obsessed with these numbers that we don't focus on the following things Skills Attitude Health Ambition Knowledge Intelligence And all these things can be easily acquired without graduating from a prestigious college. So take it easy... Take a chill pill Because it just doesn't matter What matters is the present and what you are doing today 😊 So Shine on you crazy diamond 💎 PS. Ever felt insecure in your life? Yesterday I had an interesting conversation about Japanese education with a professor at Toyohashi University of Technology. He said in typical Japanese value system, a university graduate needs to be useful for and contribute to the society in order to count him as successful result of education. "As a a professor at a university, I will say that to my students. But as a father, I will not say that to my son." "What will you say to your son?" "I will say, do whatever you enjoy and like." "Then, when one day a university can say that to its students with full support behind such a saying, its education will be successful." It got me think of the purpose of education. We have the mindset of utilitarian for our education system, meaning that we always aim to educate more useful and valuable workforce to support the social functions and hierarchical structure of our society. We add more and more skill sets to the schoolbags of our young generations. We always forget to ask them: What future do you want? How do you want to live your life? We always forget to ask ourselves: What can we do to help them suffer less? How can we serve as shoulders to let them stand on and see a brighter future? In many occasions, we tend to be so cold to children raised by other families, but always be so tender to children raised by our own hands. If we want our education to create a lot of successful students, we need to dare challenging the common definition of success and redefine the criteria of success. In my opinion, if we can nurture a generation of young minds who are curious, moral, and compassionate enough to drive changes in self and surroundings, it will be such a great achievement no matter what skills they have or what career they choose to do. #education #universities #life #teaching #colleges #meaning #schools #parenting #societies #highereducation #wellbeing #mindfulness

What would I say is one of the single biggest predictors of student success? Without a shadow of doubt, it is: ATTITUDE. Certainly, great students can still get by with a poor attitude, but it is unlikely that they will be able to reach their full potential. Conversely, a weak student with a good attitude, given the right support, can see significant improvements. A positive attitude results in: ✅ Reliance ✅ A growth mindset ✅ Academic success ✅ Better relationships ✅ Pushing boundaries ✅ Higher sense of self-worth ✅ Reduced stress and anxiety levels The real challenge for parents, therefore, comes in cultivating good attitudes and reversing poor ones. This is by no means easy, but I like to view a poor attitude as being like a wilting sunflower: Just because it is wilting, it doesn't mean we shouldn't water it. With the right care and attention, that sunflower will be resplendent again. But what can we do as parents to improve attitudes in our children? Here are some helpful tips I've collected from parents over the years: 1. Teach them mindfulness 2. Help them establish a routine 3. Offer assistance and resources 4. Give consistent encouragement 5. Create curiosity and exploration 6. Show them how you approach life 7. Reward positive effort and progress 8. Work with them to set realistic goals 9. Stay involved in their academic journey 10. Encourage resilience and perseverance 11. Maintain open communication and listen 12. Understand that there is no short-term fix 13. Demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning yourself 14. Let your children know that you will never give up on them What else can be done to create positive attitudes in our children? #esl #education #learning #wellbeing #hongkong #singapore #japan #english

There is an old Chinese proverb: "A teacher opens the door, but the student must walk through it on their own." Although the exact source is hard to locate, there is no doubt that China and its people highly value education, particularly the role of the teacher in society. To be sure, teachers are human and can make mistakes, but a teacher is always deferred to and given the benefit of the doubt. It's also a common part of Chinese culture to say these sorts of "one-liners" in everyday speech. For example, when bringing in a new employee, there's only so much that can be taught before the new hire has to figure things out and get on with the job. Mentors and teachers provide guidance and knowledge, but it's up to the individual to apply that knowledge and make progress. 📚 This proverb reminds us that success is driven by our commitment to leverage the opportunities we are given. Embrace the journey, take proactive steps, and continue to grow and learn. 🌱💪 #LifelongLearning #PersonalDevelopment #GrowthMindset

Schooling vs Education: A crucial distinction in shaping our future generation. Reflecting on our academic journey, it's evident that traditional metrics like exam scores often overshadow the true essence of education. The focus should extend beyond grades to encompass holistic growth and real-world preparedness. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese teaching model, emphasizing overall student development is key. Encouraging active involvement in school improvement fosters a well-rounded skill set essential for navigating life's challenges. Addressing the gap in practical skills, many students lack basic interview etiquette and resume-writing proficiency. It's imperative to revamp our education system, with educators playing a pivotal role as agents of change. Introducing profile building early on in the curriculum equips the next generation with the tools to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape. Together, let's redefine education to cultivate adaptable, street-smart individuals ready to excel in any scenario. #Education #FutureReady #Schooling #Students #HolisticApproach

How to know when your teen needs a tutor🤔? ✅They lack enthusiasm. If they're doing fine academically but just don't feel engaged in class, a good tutor can help them rediscover their spark. ✅They're disorganised. Our tutors can help students with planning, organisation, study techniques and other executive functioning issues. ✅They're not sufficiently challenged. A student who is excelling academically can study in greater depth with the support of a one-to-one tutor. ✅They ask for help. Many of our students self-refer to us, your teen will know if they need additional support. ✅They have weaker areas. It's important to address those weaker areas sooner rather than later, there’s still time before this summer’s exams. 👉Visit our website to learn more about how we can support your teen in-person in 🇭🇰Hong Kong and online around the 🌏world. #onlinetuition #educationalconsultant #tutor #tutors #tutoringservices #privatetutor #studentsuccess #academicsuccess #studentsupport #internationalschool #hongkong #hongkongbusiness #bartyeducation
