VCs have lost their way a long time ago.The main purpose as pointed out above was to provide financial support to early stage sometimes even Pre-revenue startups BEFORE they become something. Nowadays, the shift has completely changed with the rise of so-called late-stage funds which have taken over the industry. It is now less about supporting promising companies than maximizing returns for Partners and Managers to raise more rounds. .And for that there's only one way. Follow the crowd. Invest in companies that are either already doing well and growing organically or send big checks to startups that other Funds are already backing. That's the current state of the Venture Capital industry. VCS have simply become glorified financial advisors.
