This week I completed my first year of academic teaching. As I transistioned some of my time from research to teaching, here are three things that I have learned: 1) Learning is a two way street. You cannot expect studnets to comprehensively learn what you aren't willing to comprehensively teach 2) If you put in no work, the students will criticise you. If you put in 100%, the students will also likely criticise you. This is ok, it's how we learn. But you should always be working with them and never against them. 3) If you can, lean on your colleagues when needed. If you're lucky like me, you'll find them to be supportive, kind and generous with their time/knowledge. Take from them and give back when needed. Here's to next year!

In my view, teaching📚 🗣️excellence is separate from research 🔬⛓️🧬success. Being a great researcher does not guarantee being an effective teacher. True teaching is about making a meaningful impact on students, not about achieving research metrics.- Proud to be an Educator: RSK 🇮🇳 #randomthoughts #teaching #education

Inspirational Teacher Quote 3 "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." - William Arthur Ward Becoming an exceptional teacher stems from being an excellent student. It's essential to have the eagerness to understand your students. Treat your students as your case studies. Instead of just lecturing and providing information, focus on listening and observing. If you're not gaining knowledge from your students, you're limiting your growth potential to become a truly outstanding teacher. Engage in active listening, empathize, and immerse yourself in moments of greatness. The journey to becoming a great teacher is an ongoing experience, validated by how students respond to you. You transcend the role of a mere teacher; you become a facilitator of greatness. After having a little over a year of experience teaching in higher education, one of my biggest takeaways from teaching is the importance of connections and rapport. You can be the most educated, experienced, and knowledgeable professor in your field; however, if you cannot connect with the students or build a rapport, then it'll be difficult to get through to them. Taking time to develop a rapport and create a comfortable learning and sharing environment will generate better curiosity, engagement, and conversations. It's not a popularity contest, but your students should want to communicate freely with you. #teaching #highered #highereducation #connections #rapport #education

The Power Of Small Wins The joy of every educator is to see his or her learners achieve success. it is one of the most rewarding aspect of teaching: witnessing the small victories of students. I had a student who struggled with reading. We worked together on phonics and comprehension exercises, and the day he read a paragraph without stumbling, was a proud moment for both of us. These small wins remind me why I chose this profession. Teaching is a thing of conscience, and it is only those who see it from that angle that feel unsatisfied when their students struggle to excel in their academics. P.S Teaching is a noble profession, but it requires a lot of tasks, time, and patience to achieve success #my#profession#my #pride
