First, I like this article because it challenges business leaders to ask an important question, "Am I evolving to meet the challenges I'll be facing in the near-term future?", something we should all ask ourselves frequently. Next, the author cites 5 areas where, "...the next generation of leaders will need to possess a radically different mindset than their predecessors." Radically different. OK, now you've got my interest. If I'm going to have to change the way I think and behave "radically" I want to understand that challenge asap. The 5 areas (summarized) are these: 1) Agile Learning, 2) Hyper-Collaboration, 3) Heightened Empathy, 4) Purpose-Driven Management, and 5) Unwavering Adaptability. You know what? All of a sudden, I'm not so worried, because all of these have been on my list - and probably many of yours, too - for a long time. So it's not that these are really new changes, and they're certainly not radical ideas. However, they are becoming increasingly important. Leadership is undergoing a major overhaul, and leaders need to be able to adapt along with it! I absolutely agree with the seven key attributes leaders need to succeed laid out here, but there's another that I really want to highlight: Communicating with clarity. Leaders must be able to convey their vision, goals, and expectations clearly and concisely. Clear communication ensures that messages are understood and aligned with the organizational objectives.
