🎯 The Paradox of Less: 📊 While others are busy building fortresses of complexity, the exceptional ones are doing something radical: they're removing layers. It's counterintuitive, but the data is clear - those who voluntarily simplify before they have to show 3.2x better adaptability.
💫 No fancy programs. No flashy fixes. Just deliberate reduction and deep work.
⚡️ Here's the thing: 92% of campus leaders stumble when crisis hits. Not because they weren't prepared, but because they were prepared for the wrong thing.
🌱 The secret lives underground, in the unglamorous work nobody posts about. That's where resilience grows.

Friends. See these gloves? They're not pretty. They've got holes in them, they've got stains and they they kind of smell like honest work, to be honest with you. But they tell the truth. They absolutely tell the truth about leadership today that not enough people, our leaders are really wanting to talk about. You know that feeling when you kind of think that you've got it all figured out? OK, when all of your plans are just perfect and maybe, you know, heading in for break and you're feeling like everything is pretty well buttoned up and we are ready to go next level next year, whatever it happens to be, I'm bulletproof. And you're feeling really ready? Yeah. Let's about that. About that. Let's talk about that. Here's a mind-blowing stat. We've been doing a lot of research this year. 76% of campus leaders thought that they were perfectly prepared for whatever came next. And this is after COVID, folks. We're not. We're talking like modern time. But when the crisis hit, OK, 92% reported not even being anywhere close to feeling. Ready. That's not just a little gap, that's up, flipping, wake up call. Right? Like these gloves. OK. The best leaders that I have met do something that seems completely backwards. Instead of adding more systems, more plans, more complexity, they put the gloves on, OK? And they begin to strip things down to the bare necessities. Yeah. You know. Sung and they're not afraid to get their hands dirty. Maria comes to mind. Maria's a campus president, took over a struggling campus in 2022, and everybody expected big promises, okay, flashy programs, quick fixes, because she came in as a super shero. Instead, she did something radically different. She embraced the struggle. She didn't back down from it. No fancy solutions, just deep and honest. And competent work, you see the fancy solutions, the, the chic initiatives, many of them are, are more pretty than they are. Like, practical. You know what I mean? Like how those designer gloves that you maybe get at the boutique store that aren't supposed to get dirty or even touch the dirt. Yeah, they're not suited. Those types of gloves are not suited for the work your community deserves. Maria knew that. And risk. Actually risk being. Thrown out. Thrown off of her campus for the first two years. OK, but was willing to take the risk. The result 18% better retention, 32% better engagement in the in the reporting that we did. But the real win and this this is the thing that just warmed my heart. She gave her team back their dignity. Everybody wants to be on a winning team. OK, You know that Here's what nobody really wants to talk about. The real work happens underground. It's like the iceberg. You know, the most important stuff is the stuff that you can't really see, right? The late nights, the pulling your hair out, trying to figure everything out, the tough conversations, right? The moment when you cry uncle, uncle or I do not have all the answers and I need to reel in some supports. The research is very, very clear. It shows that organizations focusing on that. The low level development. OK, the unglamorous work recover 2.4 times faster after the crisis. OK, they're going to go through the crisis just like all of us, but they're going to recover. They had that resiliency factor. Think about that. The invisible work matters most. But here's the question. I think they probably will change everything. What if? The next crisis that comes your way isn't coming to break you, It's coming to actually really make you. Hmm. When everything gets stripped away, OK, And trust me it will. Trust me. If, if, if, if it hasn't hit you yet, it's going to subrace yourself. What remains is the question. OK, that's not just a it's not just a question either. It's really your foundation. When everything else is stripped away, that is your foundation. If this hit home, I want to hear your story. Drop a comment below. OK, If you're one of the real ones out there who have had the slats kicked out from underneath you and have a story to tell of when you just had to focus on the bare necessities, OK, what things remain? What things remain when everything else was stripped? Way and what surprised you? OK, hey, if you found value in this leader insight today, I've written an entire newsletter on this particular topic with practice, actually, some practical takeaways and some additional resources baked into it.
