The New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Addiction Agencies (NJAMHAA) Spring Conference 2024 is coming up, so we thought we'd tell you a bit more about the first of the two presentations that Anne will be giving. The session is titled ‘Five Steps to Improving Retention at Mental Health and Addiction Agencies’. Much of the country suffers from retention challenges, and mental health and addiction agencies are no different. The challenge is that while clinicians are trained to be supportive and develop team members, they struggle to hold the line on accountability and driving results. Add the dearth of workforce, and clinician-managers are in a bind: they need to manage, but they also need to retain staff. This leaves many clinicians flummoxed. The conundrum is how to accomplish goals while retaining and developing team members. In this session, attendees will learn how to use the Arudia Coaching Model to mentor, drive results, enforce accountability, and build positive relationships. Sound too good to be true? It’s not. The key is engaging, aligning, and empowering team members through the power of coaching. Today marks a significant step toward achieving equal access to mental health and substance use benefits comparable to the access we have for medical and surgical services. The Final Rule introduces a framework to measure and evaluate access and outcomes for mental health and substance use disorder benefits—something long overdue since the enactment of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act over a decade ago. While this shift may challenge some stakeholders, we see this as a powerful moment for all to unite in driving broad-based system reforms. These include establishing common frameworks for quality and outcomes, improving data transparency and access, expanding provider networks, and optimizing care settings. The Parity Rule sets the stage for transformative change, improving access to high-quality, affordable mental health and addiction care for individuals and caregivers across the U.S. We're committed to supporting this important work. Chorus Innovations is proud to share the incredible work of the Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADs) project highlighted in a recent ABC7 article. In partnership with seven California counties, the PADs project is an initiative that empowers individuals to take control of their behavioral health journey through PADs – personalized plans that reflect their specific needs and preferences. A Psychiatric Advance Directive is a valuable tool empowering a person's voice and personal choices. The purpose is to assist in a quick recovery from a crisis situation. However, it benefits overall recovery as well, encouraging listening, being seen as a whole person, supporting self-direction and wellness. With the support of peer specialists, county residents are creating these plans, leveraging Chorus’ digital tools - which help ensure their voices are heard in future behavioral health care decisions. This patient-centered approach is a key step towards more compassionate and effective mental health treatment.
