Mid-South REACH Product Development Grants Request for Applications Cycle 1 Pre-application submissions are now open! The Mid-South REACH (Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub) program is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded program that extends across four states: Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia. The primary goal of this grant program is to accelerate the real-world impact of biomedical and health related innovations through education, mentorship, and financial support for aspiring entrepreneurs. The Mid-South REACH program is not a traditional grant program. Valorisation is the concern for actual use and application of knowledge and resources. What more is the job of the Research and Valorisation Policy department? I can clearly tell you what our Research and Valorisation Policy department at the Faculty of Science (Utrecht University) works on. Our main task is to support researchers and the board, connecting them and policy. To do this, the department has three teams: Research Support, Policy and Project Management. The latter team manages multiple communities, interdisciplinary collaborations with internal and external partners, of the strategic themes Pathways to Sustainability (Utrecht University) and Utrecht Life Sciences. We also connect science and society under the label Impact. This includes, for example, sharing scientific research with the general public. Our Research Support Office helps prepare often complex grant applications and contracts. We are so successful in this, that a team has been formed for project management.   Simone Pekelsma is the team lead of the Project Management group. “You may know the communities of the strategic themes we manage: Future Food Utrecht (Universiteit Utrecht), Sustainable Ocean, Science for Sustainability and Science for Life. In addition, managing large grants such as Gravity, Horizon, NWA-ORC or NWO-LTP, generates a lot of work. To make this type of research project run efficiently as well as responsibly, and to take work off the scientists' hands, project managers are employed. It’s great to further professionalise this team. We do so through knowledge exchange and a training program for all team members. This gives us even more energy to go on with this work. Moreover, we can offer continuity to the project managers who in the past had to look for another job after the completion of such a long-term project. This makes us an important partner in the implementation of scientific projects. This is how we work together for a better future.”

I came across this interesting book: "Project Management for PhDs is intended for PhD students and supervisors from all fields and any type of PhD program. It not only has those students in mind who are seeking to gain their PhD in the classic four-year program, but also students who are working part time, in their own time, or combining the PhD with other commitments."

It was a great honor to work on this topic as my graduation assignment (thesis) in MBA program at Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences with the supervision of Gilbert Silvius and José Magano (thank you). Sustainability has become an important context in project management, however, the implementation of Sustainable Project Management (SPM) has been facing a few challenges. Our recent research work in exploring the previous studies in sustainable project management in form of a systematic literature review has just been accepted in the Journal Infrastructure, Policy and Development. This research work is also considered as a thesis through the publication program of our brilliant students Gery Prasetyo Michael Efren Abbas Putra of Management BINUS and co-authored by me, Diena T. and Dr. Marindra Bawono S.T., M.Sc..
