Be driven by empathy. Ask the question, “If I were in their shoes, how would I want to be treated?” Think about what it means to be on the “other side” of you.

"Platinum Rule" Treat others as they want to be treated. Requires one to get to know others and determine what their needs/desires/expectations are. Good leadership.

I’m responding only since you have a Ph.D. in Psychology. I hope you meant to write “sympathy.” You cannot be generally driven by empathy since it’s a rare and precious state of intimate closeness where you actually experience the very same emotion of another. It doesn’t mean you’ve fooled yourself into thinking you can feel or absorb everyone else’s emotions which is a modern aberration. Sympathy means you consider the situation of another emotionally. These are well understood components of the Ancient Greek ethos which have remained static and authoritative. These terms have nothing to do with the teachings of Christ nor the secular, sanitized version, “the Golden Rule.”

Couldn't agree more. A while back, I showed up for an interview and after making it there about 10 minutes before the interview was set to start, the leader I was supposed to interview with came and found me about 5 minutes after. The first thing out of his mouth was, "Did you get stuck in traffic?" He then proceeded to say, "This is a 6 to 7 interview-long process. We value punctuality. I'm open to interviewing you, but not today." He had no awareness that he himself was late for the interview. He displayed right there an inability to think on the other side of himself...

This gets lost in the speed and rush of the moment of everyday life, of everyday business. A very good, "slow it down and act with intentional purpose" reminder.
