Honored to participate in a collaborative discussion on Kenya's Foreign Policy with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Lucy Kiruthu, and Dr. Korir Sing’oei. As emerging diplomats, our main agenda was to explore how young people can take an active role in shaping Kenya’s international relations. We also discussed the creation of a Youth and Gender Advisory Council, aimed at ensuring that young voices are heard and valued in the formulation and execution of foreign policy. Together, we’re paving the way for a more inclusive, representative future for Kenya on the global stage. #YouthInDiplomacy #ForeignPolicy #KenyaDiplomacy #InclusiveLeadership"

GWL Voices data set is a stark reminder of the gender gap in multilateral institutions. " Only 13% of all elected leaders have been #women since 1945. Men have dominated the leadership of nearly all of these 54 multilateral organizations, which include UN specialized agencies, funds, programs, departments, and offices, as well as regional development banks, and others." Asia Justice Coalition's #Women Leaders In International Justice and Accountability Project will develop women’s leadership in international law by building expertise and facilitating constructive dialogue around critical issues of international justice and accountability in three jurisdictions in Asia.

The recent United Nations Summit of the Future deserves our attention, as its outcomes have implications for everyone. The Summit aimed to create a blueprint for promoting multilateral cooperation in a world increasingly challenged by climate change, conflict, and inequality. While many may see this as a timely and necessary effort, the global situation remains fraught with instability, largely due to ongoing conflicts. Nations must set aside their differences and collaborate towards ending these crises. Unfortunately, not all parties are prioritising human development. The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, proposed amendments that would have significantly altered the core of the pact, emphasising national jurisdiction over international cooperation and rejecting language on universal access to sexual and reproductive health rights, gender empowerment, and more. These amendments were supported by Iran, Belarus, North Korea, Nicaragua, Sudan, and Syria, outliers to progressive changes that could benefit all. This situation highlights the persistent challenges posed by those who oppose societal progress for their own benefit. Populism, extremism, nationalism, and misogyny are used as tools to resist a more equitable and just world. More concerning is the attempt to revert to an era where authoritarianism and dictatorship were more widely accepted. Despite these challenges, showing Russia’s proposed amendments were rejected by 143 nations that there is significant global support for peace, equity, sustainable development, and justice. We should align with this majority. Those who oppose progress often emerge during times of global instability, but they fear the rule of law and the collective strength and unity that can drive positive change. We must not fall into the traps of division and short-term thinking. Instead, we should focus on long-term human development and cooperation. The power to shape our future lies with us, and we must ensure it remains in our hands. https://lnkd.in/ehtY5KY8 #government #policy #unitednations #country #politics #war #inequality #poverty #sustainablity #multilatralism #populism #nationalism #law #justice #equality #gender #empowerment #leadership #economy #development #climate #misogyny #education #society #progressive #Russia #conflict #peace #teamwork #international #collective #criticalthinking #humanrights

The 37th African Union Assembly Summit has adopted the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Protocol on Digital Trade. This is a significant step towards Africa's digital transformation and integration. We hope to see this protocol pave the way for women traders towards enhancement of digital financial inclusion, closing the digital gender divide and inclusion in digital trade.

Washington should be more attuned to how Southeast Asian countries perceive their relations with the United States and China and shape its levers of engagement in the region accordingly, says Gregory Poling, senior fellow and director of the Southeast Asia Program and the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Poling spoke at our recent conference celebrating the 20th anniversary of APARC's Southeast Asia Program, "Reconsidering Southeast Asia: Issues and Prospects,” where he shared research findings that provide a rigorous assessment of country-level elite and public opinion regarding the United States and China and trends in perceptions of the two powers. Watch the complete discussion > https://lnkd.in/gg5dqMdH The conference also included panels on the Anthropocene of Southeast Asian river deltas, solutions to gender inequality in Southeast Asian countries, the economic and sociopolitical futures of the region, and what's ahead for Southeast Asia scholarship. Transnational Activities of Women-Focused Civil Society Actors in Southern Africa" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023). A book that I co-authored with Dr Oluwaseun Tella. It focuses on southern Africa by engaging with ‘norms’ from various perspectives and how they have proliferated within a neo-liberalising context since the 1990s. It particularly examines gender norms in relation to agency, influence and their impact. It reveals that transnational activities and regionalisation of gender and women-focused civil society actors are critical for advocacy and diverse representation within intergovernmental policymaking structures at the regional scale.https://https://lnkd.in/drk7Hjmf
