Two years ago, Secretary Vilsack and I launched the Agricultural Science Center of Excellence for Nutrition and Diet (ASCEND) for better health in support of the WH Cancer Moonshot initiative. ASCEND is dedicated to translating innovative nutrition research and delivering it to communities to change lives. Last year we established the first community nutrition hub in partnership with Southern University and A&M College. Excitingly, today we announced the addition of three new hubs to the network. Thank you, University of Hawaii, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, & Utah State University for joining us in realizing the vision. #USDAScience
The USDA today announced a $4.5 million investment to create three additional USDA Nutrition Hubs. The hubs will support effective, translatable and scalable approaches to advance food and nutrition security and reduce the burden of diet-related chronic diseases, especially in underserved, at-risk communities.
