There is no shortage of global rankings for countries across many different dimensions, such as the most competitive, most expensive, best place for expats, best transportation system, best airport etc. Which of course leads to a vigorous debate about why the rankings are right or wrong. These rankings, in theory, are supposed to be objective comparisons. As with the topics that they choose to build the rankings with, they are often made up of different dimensions and metrics from which they are distilled into a single index for ranking purposes. And this causes some issues: 🎯Is there are global consensus on the key attributes to the most competitive country, best airport? If so, what is the logical basis of their determination? 🎯Even if you could agree with their definitions, they can choose different metrics with which to measure these dimensions. 🎯Finally, you also have to question how they calculated the indices used for rankings. Why were some factors weighted heavier than others while others were not. These rankings are great articles for discussion and social media posts, but I find it more interesting to dissect the underlying parameters or to understand how they have been trending. Take the quality of life measure in the link, it attempts to quantify and rank the countries with the best quality of lives. FYT Consulting has taken the liberty to convert the data into interactive dashboards. Take a look at it and find out where your country sits on the rankings. See if you agree or not. Let me know.
