Rehab x Strength and Conditioning Rehab and Strength/Conditioning lay on the spectrum that is the Return to Performance. When done correctly (and there are multiple ways) it looks something like this: 1. early stage rehab: PT or AT 2. Mid stage rehab: PT or AT 3. Late stage rehab: AT or CSCS 4. Return to Performance: CSCS This graph is a case study of a basketball 🏀 athletes who is 9 months post-ACLR. For simplicity, only jump height is shown. But very cool to see this athlete is now jumping higher than his pre-injury status (first jump) while all other metrics follow as well. 🔑 Rehab x Strength and Conditioning #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

Low Back Rehab For S and C coaches, doing corrective or rehab work with their athletes may be a challenge since the athlete:coach ratio is usually large. For general low back rehab, using ELDOA may provide a good model for ‘preventative’ work since it is low maintenance, low difficulty, and be used in the team 🏀🏀 environment. ELDOA strives to ‘decompress’ the spine and relieve stress off the discs which may cause low back pain. There are different postures aimed at different segments of the spine, this is the low back specific posture. #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

Different approach to rehab Using this PRI based drill to help athletes ‘activate’ their hips. One thing I see is lack of being able to sit into hips during movements like squatting or stepping causing athletes to be more knee-dominant. Over time, this may cause overload on the knees + court demands and under load on the hips. The way I cue this drill isn’t for L AIC or PEC, rather being able to translate the thigh into hip socket forward and backward. 🔑 unique methods = new outcomes 🏀 #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

What is the most importance performance assessment in strength and conditioning?? 1. Dynamic Strength Index ? 2. Impulse Dynamic Strength Index? (Great work by Dr. Matt Ward 3. Elastic utilization ratio? 4. Reactive strength index? 5. modifies reactive strength index? 6. Quad to hamstring ratio? 7. ABD: ADD ratio? The answer is all of them and none of them. As coaches and practitioners, we tend to fall into 1-2 tests and make important decisions off then such as annual programming. However, athletes and goals change over the season and within time periods. 🔑: 1 test gives one small slice of information, this is where sport science can help to add robust testing in an efficient manner to give the performance staff more information. #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

Movement Patterns One of my favorite concepts from Vladimir Janda’s work is primary movers. This concept deals with how a person is moving and whether they are using the ‘correct’ muscles to move. Think back to school when we learn the prone hip extension test. At the advanced level with athletes, we can apply the concept to the posterior chain. Is an athlete using primary movers like the Solues, Glute Max pair…or the weaker Gastroc-Hamstring pair. This drill helps athletes to reinforce the correct and often underused primary pair of Soleus-Glute Max. #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

Can sports make your head spin? 🤔 Ever wondered if high-risk head trauma sports may impair vestibular function? Mads Svenstrup and Dan Dupont Hougaard did, and they set out to find the answer! To get to the bottom of this, Mads and Dan put athletes through comprehensive vHIT testing of all six semicircular canals and had them fill out the 25-item Dizziness Handicap Inventory questionnaire. Their goal was to determine if athletes in high-risk head trauma sports had any significant vestibular hypofunction 👨⚕️ They studied athletes with sports-related head injuries from ice hockey, football, handball, horseback riding, and boxing 🏒⚽🤾🏇🥊 👉 So, what did they discover? No – high-risk head trauma sports do NOT make your head spin. In other words, athletes in these sports did not suffer from impaired vestibular function after sports-related head injuries 👏 👉 What are the clinical implications? The study showed that vHIT examinations are normal in the vast majority of sports-related concussions when athletes do not feel dizzy 💡 🧠 Want to dive deeper? The nightmare in modern bodybuilding-based sports science in any sport is muscle imbalance, the main drawback in programming that doesn't get addressed. As the world of sports grows in every corner of the world, at the same time an athlete is injured, we must not forget the one factor that hardly someone talks about, the negative transfers of bodybuilding and weight lifting based sportscience. Every program looks similar whether it is tennis, football, rugby, badminton etc everyone wants that big lift squats, deadlifts, power cleans, glutebridge, bird dog, side plank etc but does it translate to the skills, demands, and environmental pressures of the various sports? Everything must be a movement in mindfulness perception of action, every micro cell must respond to the visualisation of the actual task. Do we pay attention to the tears of the athletes lying on the grass after an ACL injury? Welcome to the Eastern philosophy of mindful practice in conscious movement. Forget the muscle, don't die in the battle and remember no mind ♻️🐅 #easternphilosophy #easternmindfulpractice #warriorclan #bharathiyamovementpractice #movementlearning #translation #injuryrehab #performancetraining, #sportsperformancettaining #athletictrainer #sportsandrehab ##strengthandconditioning #sportsprogram #physicaltherapy

This week is Exercise Right Week and I'm doing something I've never done before... I wholeheartedly believe that exercise if right for everyone but not ALL exercises are right for everyone. A individualised approach to training considering goals, motivators, barriers and physical capacity is key to a successful exercise intervention. I much prefer being on the other side of the camera although I thought I'd take this opportunity to show everyone a sample of how I train - how I make exercise RIGHT FOR ME. I may be an exercise physiologist, but I don't like being in the gym for more than 30-40mins. My current goals are around conservative management of a chronic shoulder injury and general physical preparation for my sport of choice, volleyball. ✅ A1 Squat to Box (2x5, 4x3) ✅ A2 SL Box Jumps (4x3es) ✅ B1 Seated Military press (4x6-8) ✅ B2 Banded Push up + (3x12-15) ✅ C1 DB Front raises (3x10-12) ✅ C2 Prone Pendulum ER (3x15) #exerciserightweek #exercisephysiology #volleyball #shoulderpain #exerciserehabilitation Video Description: A man doing a series of exercises in a gym.

Hip external and internal rotation are important physical qualities for athletes. Restricted hip mobility can limit an athletes ability to move efficiently and express force. There are strong correlations between hip mobility deficits and lower limb injury. Particularly in field and court sports where hip mobility has shown to decrease in season (Li 2015). By using app based goniometer and an arm sleeve we can easily assess an athletes internal and external rotation. Athletes will be flagged for intervention if they are below 35 degrees of IR and below 45 degrees of ER. Also, if they are below a total arc of 80 degrees, and if theirs greater than 15 degrees between left and right limb. #hips #mobility #flexibility #sportperformance #sportsmedicine #sportscience #athleticperformance #athletictraining #hockey #soccer #football #futbol #strength #Speed #power #health #rehab #physio #physicaltherapy #fitness #foryou #explore
