You can argue with me all you want, but medical textbook knowledge and standard protocols often fall short when addressing the unique needs of athletes. Because athletes have specific needs, treatment should be tailored to them, not just a one-size-fits-all solution. Understanding what athletes go through helps create better treatment plans that help heal their current injuries and reduce the chance of future problems. While some doctors do try to consider athletes' needs, they might still rely on general practices because they may not fully understand the specific demands and rigors of sports due to their limitations in resources or knowledge. Athletes need more than sympathy in their recovery journey. They need empathy. #puresprint #injuryrecovery #athletes #dubai #manualtherapy #sportstherapy #recoveryjourney #phsyiotherapy #footballplayers #recoveryjourney

Differential diagnoses for Groin Pain in Athletes Groin pain is a common complaint among athletes in team sports that usually involve change of direction and kicking, and males have a higher incidence of groin injury than females. According to the study by Mercurio et al (2022) groin pain prevalence was highest among soccer (32.5%), footsal (25.5%), basketball (25.2%), waterpolo (17.6%) and volleyball (13.6%). Average time loss from sport may vary between 1-4 months and according to Werner et al (2009) groin injuries have a higher recurrence rate ranging 15-31%. While there are certain diagnostic criteria like Doha agreement that would aid in classifying and identifying groin injuries, it is still a challenging entity to make an accurate diagnosis in the clinical setting. Due to the close proximity to structures that possibly could contribute to the painful experience, it is important as primary care clinicians to be aware of potential differential diagnoses for groin pain in athletes, not only for diagnosis but also for referrals, second opinion or in case of sinister pathology. #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #sportsphysio #sportsmedicine #groininjury #groinpain #hippain #hipinjury #adductorpain #adductorinjury #rehabilitation #training #sportsinjury #athletetraining #sportsscience #injuryrehab #exerciserehab #healthcare #fitness #sportsperformance #soccer #football #rugby #basketball #waterpolo #backtosport

"I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" My husband has recently started working with new physiotherapist. Since I am still on the lookout for a new personal trainer (PT), I jumped at this opportunity to get a recommendation. I shared that I was looking for someone who has at least 10 years as a PT, and ideally someone who has experience working with people with lumbar scolisis / back issues. He recommended ‘a mate of his’ who apparently fit the bill as ‘he’d worked with clients with injuries’. So after getting this PT’s name, I looked him up on Linkedin… of course. This is what I saw on this PT’s profile: - Degree in Accountancy - Has worked as a PT for less than 3 years - No related credentials or certifications in health / nutrition / sports / PT listed on LinkedIn So here I am. “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed”. I am disappointed that this physio thought it was a good idea to recommend (what appeared to be) his inexperienced, unqualified ‘gym bro’ … after he was made aware of my condition and preferences! 🤔 🤔 🤔 This experience really got me thinking more broadly about our recommendations and reputation. Linkedin is a platform that allows us to recommend others. We are also invited to share the works (eg articles) of others in our network. Often, our network asks us specifically to do so, and we agree, partly because we want to support our network. BUT … How often do we think about our recommendations, and how that might impact on our *own* reputation? We want to help our network, but how deeply do we think about what that might say about us? Might we unintentionally disappoint them, while try to support a mate? I know that this experience has taught me to think more deeply before I recommend someone. Is there a way to be more nuanced, thoughtful and still supportive? I’m curious to get your perspectives on this. ❓ What do you have in common with Virat Kohli, Criatiano Ronaldo, Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton? You've all suffered with back, knee and shoulder and Neck pain. . . and their injuries are usually worse. 🤕 They immediately start working with their sports medicine doctor & Physical therapists, training hard and getting back to their field in a few days/weeks. . . But you are often given outdated advice by your doctor e.g. Bed rest, unnecessary surgeries, stop squatting, stop lifting, stop living ! 🤔 why? - imagine telling Virat Kohli to stop running, it's not good for your knees! 😯 🤜 For them - every moment lost to injury is missed opportunities on the field. so they find the most effective and efficient treatment- Physiotherapy 👉 95% of all muscle pain are easily manageable with physiotherapy along with strength and conditioning to stay fit. Physio is for all ages and activity levels, to manage pain and get back to your sport of choice - like running around with your toddler, your meetings, cooking up a feast, driving your bike or car for hours! We are all athletes, let's train and recover like them! 💪 PS - Shoutout to Patrick Farhart on the field 🙌🏼 #sportsphysicaltherapy #sportspt #rehabilitation #exercise #pt #strengthtraining #viratkohli #serenawilliams #cristianoronaldo #lewishamilton #sportsphysio #strengthandconditioning
