Breaking 🚨: TIER-Dott is born! TIER Mobility and Dott has closed the merger transaction creating TIER-Dott. Both Tier and Dott apps will exist for now, with possible convergence in the future CEO of TIER-Dott Henri Moissinac said: "The closing of this transaction marks the start of an exciting new chapter for both TIER and Dott. We are focused on uniting our teams under the goal of running responsible operations for users, cities and the environment, helping to lower car use by offering a reliable and sustainable alternative." The combination creates a new global leader next to Lime in shared micromobility with €250m in revenues and presence in more than 20 countries. About the deal: 👉 The deal is backed by a mix of existing shareholders from both TIER and Dott, led by Mubadala Capital and Sofina, and including Estari, M&G, Prosus Ventures, Novator and White Star Capital. 👉 Participating investors are investing €60 million in equity 👉 New management: Tier’s founder and current CEO Lawrence Leuschner will become the Chairman of the company, with Dott’s Henri Moissinac taking the CEO role and Maxim Romain as the COO. This is a massive big step for shared micromobility globally and also a positive signal that there is hope. If you have spent enough time looking at Shared MM financials, it is clear that Gross Margins are high, but you need scale and a lean team to be profitable. TIER-Dott is well positioned to be EBIT positive soon and when it happens, it would be a massive milestone for shared MM. A playbook to build industrial companies in EU? Listened the other day to this podcast by Benoit Lemaignan, CEO & Co-founder of Verkor hosted by Matthieu Stefani. Which resonated a lot with the The Climate Brick announcement!! (go check it out 👀 ). A few things that stood out: 🏭 The Vargas Holding model really is one of the best reference (link in the comment for a recent article by Sifted) 💸 Leveraging debt money along with equity money (and possibly infrastructure funds early) is still under-utilized. 🤝 Secure early on key industrial sponsors, understanding their exact "requirements" to unlock those partnerships 😀 Culture plays a huge role: set "ambitious but not delusional timelines", create momentum and surround yourselves with builders who love industrial hardware. 👫 And last but surely not least, the importance of talent and building in a fertile ecosystem. Not all deeptech technologies can/should be taken to market via this approach. But for the more mature ones, where integration, execution and industrial buy-ins are critical, this may be a new playbook to build amazing hardware companies in Europe 🇪🇺

30 years ago, my dad Christian Schwerin founded meso international GmbH. Those were years of innovation, hard work and tough lessons. Many employees and customers have stayed loyal for decades and they deserve a continuation of the entrepreneurial spirit. I am grateful to have the opportunity to follow his lead and develop a vision for the company together with him in the next years. Even better, my wife Corinna Schwerin has joined the company as well and will foster the great relationships with our customers and inspire our go-to-market team. We as Core Team (Franziska Freese Sebastian Wenzel Toon De Backer Daniela Behrendt Leonie Geers Rebekka Müller) together with Markus Bold, Managing Director of CHEMOVATOR GmbH, kicked off the event with a motivational and inspiring opening, followed by an amazing keynote by Tanja Bogumil, serial entrepreneur and food innovator. Tanja and Markus encouraged us to take ownership, embrace risk and apply the underlying principles of entrepreneurship. It's about empowering each other while improving collaboration within our teams. Finally, we invited our guests to discuss in a panel with Stefanie Saeger Lydia Wartewig Mark P.
