Most successful entrepreneurs are posthumously praised for their business masterpieces. Of course, there are plenty of these in the life of “BGB” (the nickname of Asklepios Hospital founder Bernard Große #Broermann).
But I prefer to remember a person who was particularly good at one thing: listening and asking questions.
Another thing was his enthusiasm for #healthy eating, a healthy #lifestyle and #prevention. This was largely triggered by the book "Let's eat right to keep fit." A work that anticipated many things in the area of prevention and lifestyle as early as 1954.
In addition to the Asklepios Hospitals chain, one of his passions was the 5-star hotel industry, which he came to rather involuntarily. Among the pearls in his portfolio are institutions such as the Hotel Atlantic Hamburg or the Villa Rothschild in Falkenstein, where parts of the German constitution were drafted after the Second World War.
Not far from the villa is the Falkenstein Grand, Autograph Collection Hotels in a 77,000 square meter park. I spent countless hours in this hotel, including some with BGB.
Now I can reveal it - although there was no mention of it on the hotel restaurant menu, I discovered BGB one day with an espresso ice cream on the terrace. BTW - a terrace that impresses with a panoramic view of the Taunus and the Frankfurt skyline. Well, from then on I was allowed to order it too, because there was always a sufficient supply of it.
At the end of the day, of course, there is much more left than just my humble memories.
If you want to understand the German healthcare system and the work of this extremely human entrepreneur, I recommend his autobiography “Passion for Health”.
The book is in German, but you can read its electronic version in a web browser - and these days most browsers translate everything pretty well into almost every language.
Rest in peace, BGB
