Sharing this excellent animation that outlines the drivers of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experience disproportionate rates of intimate partner violence, experiencing violence at 3 x the rate of non-Indigenous women, are hospitalised at 32 x the rate of non-Indigenous women and are 13 x more likely to be killed by their intimate partner than non-Indigenous women.

UMO would like to bring your attention to the #16DaysofActionAgainstDomesticViolence Originating in 1991 as the ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence’, this movement aims to raise awareness and initiate real change in the fight to end domestic violence and abuse. It is not just important that we seek out education on the truths, consequences, and signs of domestic abuse, as a way of protecting ourselves. It is our duty to hear the stories of domestic abuse survivors, to listen with an empathetic and compassionate ear, and spread a message of support that might reach individuals caught in similar situations. Below are a few links to some websites where you can learn more about the different ways this 16 days is being approached by different organisations, and the themes for this year: https://lnkd.in/dNmkEg7x? https://lnkd.in/e-YBuzvT https://lnkd.in/e6UrKkYZ https://lnkd.in/gpnyjJK

Extremism thrives on the suppression of women. Her dress, her body – their battleground. Is this what faith looks like? If a man wore it, would it be blasphemy?
