Audiences these days certainly do desire 'authenticity'. But to claim that pop stars are more 'authentic' than movie stars, as this article suggests, is rather questionable. One can hardly imagine a more manufactured industry than the pop music business. Performers like Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift are intentionally constructed more as brands than musicians. Of course there are some excellent artists who still put music before image; but sadly, without a big marketing machine behind them, most will never be heard. Our social media image-driven collective fascination with celebrity continues to...fascinate! #entertainmentindustry #marketing #branding #advertising #musicindustry #musicbusiness https://lnkd.in/eha399rU

I am a big Dua Lipa Fan, and when I heard about her own management company Radical 22, I was hopeful that something cool might come out of it. Radical22, the brainchild of Dua Lipa and her manager Dukagjin Dugi Lipa ( Father Daughter Duo, is making waves in the music industry with its recent global administration deal with Warner Chappell Music. This agreement is just the beginning for the dynamic duo, who are also behind the upcoming Disney+ documentary series, Camden. With Radical22 Productions and Service95 under its umbrella, the company is set to revolutionize the creative landscape. Dua Lipa's journey to owning her publishing rights has been a long one, but with Radical22 by her side, the future looks bright. Stay tuned for more exciting projects from this powerhouse team! I guess time is here where the future holds opportunities for artists to start their own ventures, such as artist-centric streaming services, to secure their publishing rights and royalties? #musicindustry #DuaLipa #Radical22 #WarnerChappellMusic #poll #excitingnews

10 years ago, I was just a bedroom producer, sampling old vinyls and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. One night, I stumbled upon a phrase by American rapper REDMAN that stuck with me: "Turn me up some." What started as an organic experiment suddenly took an unexpected turn. Before I knew it, our track was being played on shows like "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and MTV. Then, something even bigger happened—DJ Snake sampled it for his song "Frequency 75", and that song ended up in the "Fast & Furious 9" movie trailer. This experience taught me a crucial lesson: Artists often overthink the process: “Is it good enough?” “Is it the right time?” But in reality, if you believe in your music, don’t wait. Just release it. You never know who's listening, and it could change everything. In this video, I share that simple yet powerful message: Don’t hesitate—trust your work and let the world hear it. #tipsforartists #redman #djsnake #fastandfurious

Linkin Park, the iconic rock band, has embarked on a new chapter in their musical journey. Following a hiatus after the tragic loss of their lead vocalist in 2017, the band has thoughtfully reimagined their lineup. In a bold move to honor their legacy while embracing evolution amongst the younger generation, they've introduced a talented female guitarist from their team as their new lead singer to "REFORM" the brand. While this transformation raises interesting questions about brand reinvention in the music industry, and whether it's the right decision. How can established Brands in any industry successfully redefine themselves after a significant absence from the spotlight, whether it's been a decade or even two? The approach to starting fresh as a brand like Linkin Park balances respect for a band's history, and popularity. Do you think older brands should take this approach after years to stay in business? How do you think that would help them grow? Feel free to share your thoughts! #branding #advertisingandmarketing #LinkinPark #advertising #Strategy

We need to have a serious conversation about being able to make money as musician or as a creative in general. Find a way to concurrently make money for your brand. It doesn't have to be big amount. If you haven't made money yet start off with $500 monthly. There are many ways you can achieve this. You can do it! Nevertheless, not only are we artists–we are professionals. Someone once told me when you have a general ledger of income and expenses that your brand incurs you are a business. We have to turn our passion of being creative and turn it into something actionable and achievable. Make your creative outputs valuable in the marketplace. So I challenge you. Be creative. #musicbusiness #musicians #money #musicindustry

💋 Sabrina’s Sensational Salesmanship 💋 I am a lifelong fan of hard rock and traditional heavy metal. I’m talking (#KISS), I’m talking (#VanHalen), I’m talking (#Queen). It is unusual for me to be aware of and excited about a dance-pop album release. So, how did Pennsylvania’s #SabrinaCarpenter manage to sway me for her sixth album #ShortNSweet? Marvellous megastar marketing! (1) Her #TikTok Strategy Casting her partner #BarryKeoghan in the #PleasePleasePlease music video so that it would land in the algorithms of film fans and followers of celebrity romance. Touring with #TaylorSwift and being exposed to her 32.8 million followers. Appearing on #SaturdayNightLive to hop on the #ForYou feeds of sketch comedy fans. Covering #GoodLuckBabe by #ChappellRoan on BBC Radio 1’s #LiveLounge because Roan’s audience fits Carpenter’s target demographic. Perhaps most significantly, by constantly commenting on and reposting fan-made videos, there was suddenly a communal, grassroots element to her publicity. (2) Visual Coherence Deciding on a spring release for the #Espresso single and a summer release for the album, the promotional material embraced a tropical aesthetic, especially Espresso’s music video. The pin-up poses, pastel colours, even Carpenter’s fresh tan all maintained that identity. Especially in today’s digital realm, people listen with their eyes, you may as well pair your music with a distinct narrative, characterisation, and over-the-top imagery. (3) An Alliance Carpenter opening for Swift’s Latin American, Asian, and Australian legs of #TheErasTour mirrors #Metallica supporting on #Ozzy Osbourne’s 1986 North American tour for #TheUltimateSin. Fair or unfair, punters are not going to do business with somebody they do not know. Carpenter, much like #LarsUlrich, knew she would need someone upper level to introduce her, someone to vouch. Let this serve as a lesson to record labels everywhere. No more throwing artists to the wolves in an over saturated sector. If you want people to take notice, first fixate on a format, next form a vision, then implement a strategy based on it.

If you kept an eye on what labels released which dance smashes back in the day you might know that i didn’t sign French Kiss. It actually became a number 2 uk hit for @ffrrrecords. It’s one of several that sit in the ‘ones that got away’ file….where deals didn’t happen for a range of reasons….an inevitable aspect of being aware of unsigned club records with crossover potential historically for me was that it was impossible to sign or be involved with them all. Whilst there aren’t as many dance records crossing over today as at some points historically in at least one way things remain comparable- we can’t do everything ! No artist manager ,publisher or whatever can work with everyone who shows potential. Got to accept that. As i’ve said in some of my consultancy work its why developing artists need to remember that a rejection doesn’t mean they’re not going to make it. Thanks to Billy and the crew for inviting me up to @resonatescotlsnd and to @finnlay from @afemorg for hosting the conversation. It now appears as part of their Industry insider podcast series - will pop a link below. Whilst i’m here respect due to @justinberkmann who was the dj i mention and without whom @ministryofsound would not exist. #musicindustry #musicbusiness #musicbusinesseducation #musicindustryeducation
