This past weekend Motsumi Darts had the privilege of sponsoring and attending "The Rhino and Elephant Specialists Procedures Veterinary Workshop" organised by Kyron Scripts. The practical workshop was attended by veterinarians, CCS veterinarians, veterinary nurses and some final-year veterinary students. The lineup included widely acclaimed wildlife veterinarians and presented an opportunity for vets to network and share integral knowledge and new procedures. Some of the darts for the workshop were sponsored by @Motsumi Darts. The following specialist procedures and lecture topics were included in the programme: Anaesthetic protocols - Rhino and Elephant. Placement of an ET tube. Low dose opioid and medetomidine protocol. Monitoring equipment used on immobilized rhino. Reproduction problems and oocyte and semen collection. Gastric intubation and use of gastroscopy to determine the presence of stomach ulcers. Trauma assessment and diagnostics including radiographs, wounds, surgery, analgesia, biochemistry and its interpretation. Stabilisation of orphan rhino including critical and long-term care. Collection and use of blood and plasma transfusions for emergency treatment. Rhino tracking and fitment of AI foot collars. Use of long-term tranquilisation for transport and boma care. Part 2. Ultrasound study in Pets Identification of Canine and Feline Adrenal gland The adrenal gland is present in the abdomen medial to the kidney. The landmark for identification are kidney, aorta and renal artery. The kidney of either side is identified in lateral recumbency, the probe is fanned dorsally to identify aorta. A vessel branching from aorta towards kidney is renal artery. The adrenal is present at the junction of the aorta and renal artery. The adrenal is peanut shaped gland.
