Some survival tips for my fellow fintech explorers: 💡 Learn to Love Data: It's everywhere, and it’s your new best friend. Treat it well, and it’ll guide you through (trust me, Excel and I are basically in a relationship now). ⏳ Time Management = Superpower: Between group projects, student rep duties, and trying to squeeze in some Netflix—let's just say coffee becomes essential. ☕ 👥 Network Like a Pro: Make friends, ask questions, connect with people smarter than you. It’s like a cheat code for life. Being the student representative has taught me that sometimes, the best leadership skill is just listening (and maybe bringing snacks to meetings 🍕). Why Education & Training Matter More Than Sales in Fintech In the fintech industry, the emphasis is often placed on sales rather than education. However, training plays a pivotal role in achieving success. Many Business Correspondents (BCs) may have the determination but lack proper training, often possessing only a 10th or 12th-grade education. By equipping them with the necessary skills, they can do more than sell—they can educate communities, effectively spreading awareness about government initiatives and financial products in remote rural areas. Currently, there is a rush to expand business without investing in training, neglecting the importance of knowledge. Well-trained agents have the ability to make a lasting impact and contribute to substantial change within the industry. How can we place a greater emphasis on education within the fintech sector? It's alarming to see how many undergraduate students are unfamiliar with #fintech applications during my "Introduction to FinTech" lecture. From #insurtech to #mobilepayments, #genai, #cbdcs, and beyond, this lack of knowledge is particularly concerning for students pursuing careers in #finance. I always emphasize to students that FinTech is not limited to a specific region but is a global phenomenon, transforming #financialsystems worldwide and opening up new avenues for #internationalcollaboration and #investment. This is especially important for students at HKU, as it is such a global school. I encourage everyone, even those who don't know how FinTech impacts them, to keep up with the latest developments to capture opportunities brought by FinTech in multiple industries. #fintechinnovation #fintechrevolution

The discussion revolved around the different facets of the innovations, opportunities and challenges within the FinTech sector, entrepreneurial strategy, market adaptation, risk management, ethical consideration and the importance of continuous learning and innovation. More specifically: ◾ Innovating financial accessibility for education: simplifying the process of securing educational loans reduces barriers to entry, while alleviates the financial stress of students making education more accessible and democratized. ◾ Overcoming challenges in FinTech entrepreneurship: importance of resilience and adaptability both in the face of market feedback, customer segment peculiarities and potential investor skepticism. Pivoting from initial concepts to meet actual market demands and a viable addressable market illustrates the dynamic nature of FinTech startup growth and the need for strategic adaptability and flexibility. ◾ Building trust and ethical practices in FinTech: trust must be the cornerstone of FinTech innovation genuinely focusing on solving customer problems and avoiding exploitative practices.
