What do we need to consider to train future math teachers? This professor focuses on the mathematical identities and belonging and then content through reasoning and discourse to lay the foundation for future teachers. I distinctly recall, years ago, the rising middle school orientation with the very scary-looking flow chart of math courses – why on Earth were we talking about how to get our kids into AP Calc when they hadn’t started 6th grade? As Julia Kaufman explains, middle school math matters.
