The reason this is so true is that most companies do little if anything to prepare the person to be a manager. They want to reward a high performer, so they promote them. But when you do that without giving the person training to do everything a manager does, two things happen. 1) Productivity falls tremendously because the high performer is no longer producing and 2) you now have someone in charge with no experience at managing conflict, delegating authority, or managing a budget. You can easily reduce turnover by better preparing people BEFORE you promote into the new position. Plus, when you do, they and their teams perform better as well! Learn more at:
