When is a Basketball Game More Than Just Basketball ? It’s when a game becomes a bridge between people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. It’s when teamwork on the court translates into building a stronger, more inclusive community off the court. For me, the Telford Interfaith Community Basketball Initiative is a powerful example of how sports can be a unifying force. Every Monday and Tuesday night, we come together not just to play, but to connect, support, and inspire one another. It’s about fostering physical health, mental wellbeing, and a sense of belonging. Basketball becomes more than a game when it sparks conversations, breaks barriers, and creates lasting friendships. It’s amazing to witness how something as simple as a basketball can build bridges and transform lives. Here’s to more nights filled with teamwork, laughter, and community spirit—on and off the court! 🏀 What about you? How have you seen sports create local impact beyond the game?

Unpopular opinion. I vote: less intensity for kids' team sports. Let them be kids. Allot time for them to be unscheduled. As a mom of two children under 5, I am baffled. 5-year-olds are playing hockey up to 3x/week. 3/4-year-olds, twice a week. Entire weekends devoted to hockey. All winter. We are losing value in the slowness of a weekend. In play. In stillness. We are creating overscheduled, exhausted, and overstimulated children. I love hockey. So do my kids. But the level of intensity needs to shift. There is a fine line between fostering a love of the sport. & ruining it. Your kids' time is valuable too. You manage their time - Be careful. & do it with intention

Stack Sports has joined nearly 20 partner organizations for The Aspen Institute’s new #63X30 Vision, aimed at getting 63% of youth playing sports by 2030. As of today it is estimated only 54% of children ages 6-17 in the U.S. played on a team or took lessons in 2022. As one of the partner organizations, Stack Sports joins the other partnering organizations in committing to taking actions that can get and keep more children playing sports, from creating affordable programs in underserved neighborhoods to promoting multi-sport sampling to developing more coaches to serve children’s needs. Supporting Grassroots Football: Essential for the Sport’s Growth Supporting grassroots football is one of the most powerful ways to grow the sport. At this level, young players learn the basics, discover their passion, and experience the true joy of playing. When we invest in grassroots football, we’re not just building better players—we’re building stronger communities. Grassroots programs give kids a place to belong, to stay active, and to learn teamwork, discipline, and resilience. They provide equal opportunities for all, giving children from all backgrounds a chance to learn, grow, and dream big. By supporting grassroots football, we’re fueling the future of the game. This level of support doesn’t just nurture talent; it strengthens communities and promotes healthier, happier lives. In summary, supporting grassroots football is more than an investment in the sport—it’s an investment in communities, youth development, and the future of football itself. By fostering this level of the game, we’re not only securing the future of football but also enriching lives and building stronger communities worldwide. #Sports #Grassroots #football #developments #players #soccer #professional #kids #scouts #nigeria #talents

Neighborhood Sports Play is the Last Affordable Youth Sports Option The belief that youth recreational sports is the last affordable sport option is an urban myth since the average cost for 3 months of youth recreational sports costs $300-$400 per player for 3 months of play (compare that cost to the average monthly food budget for a family of 4 in California is just under $300) As parents we need to ask ourselves, why do we need coaches, uniforms, referees or umpires, parents and sport field rentals for our kids to play a sport that most of us played in our neighborhoods with our friends until about 2 decades ago --and while most of us believe that neighborhood play option is gone-how can we reintroduce that play culture back into our neighborhoods.
