How are justice and walking related? And why does India need more river walkers? Eight fellows walked along the river Luni in Rajasthan through the months of February and March 2024 in the latest edition of the Moving Upstream fellowship conceived by Siddharth Agarwal and jointly hosted by Veditum India Foundation, School of Public Policy, IIT Delhi, A4STORE and Out of Eden Walk. Their encounters with human and non-human lives that are a part of the riparian ecosystem are intertwined with personal negotiations, challenging assumptions and reinforcing the sentience of the river. These journeys on foot blurred the boundaries between the internal and external - the self and the environment - a a crucial convergence for a fundamental shift in how we relate to the environment. And subsequently how we engage with it. In the blog below we explore these questions in greater depth, drawing out the links between justice, walking, rivers and innovation. https://lnkd.in/dd2Zundb https://lnkd.in/dQuicbtT #environmentaljustice #rivers #innovation Sachin Malhan Artika Raj Supriya Sankaran ATREYO Smrithi (Simi) Sundararajan Ayera Choudhary Ayushi Singhal Aayush Tainwala Keerthana Medarametla Varun Hemachandran Smita Gupta Sai Chitnis Aditi Kim Karolil

Nalanda University: A Legacy of Knowledge and Inclusivity Nalanda University, one of the oldest centers of learning in the world, has a rich and inspiring history. Founded in the 5th century in India, it was a place where knowledge flourished and scholars from all corners of the globe gathered to study and share ideas. Imagine a university where thousands of students and teachers lived and learned together, exploring subjects ranging from philosophy and medicine to mathematics and astronomy. Nalanda was a hub of knowledge, much like today's top universities, but it existed over a thousand years ago. What made Nalanda special was its spirit of open-mindedness and inclusivity. It welcomed scholars from different cultures and backgrounds, encouraging them to exchange ideas and learn from one another. This diverse environment fostered innovation and deep understanding. The legacy of Nalanda teaches us that education is more than just learning facts. It’s about nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and compassion. It shows us that when we come together with a shared purpose of learning, we can achieve great things. As we look at the challenges and opportunities of our time, we can draw inspiration from Nalanda’s story. Let's build schools and universities that welcome everyone, encourage open dialogue, and inspire students to think creatively and act kindly. Honoring Nalanda's memory means committing to these timeless values. By doing so, we can create a world where knowledge is shared freely and used to improve the lives of people everywhere. Let’s embrace the spirit of Nalanda and make learning a lifelong, joyful journey #india #education #motivation #inspiration #technology #engineering #culture #management #leadership

Delighted to announce that my research work during my internship phase titled as, "Economic Profile: Sirmaur, Mapping Economic Landscape of Paonta Sahib and adjoining industrial areas" has been successfully published in the form of a book a few days ago by the reputed firm Neelkamal Publications. The ISBN code of the book is: 9789395368841.The first copy of this book has been gifted to IIM-Sirmaur's library for further academic research and policy framing. The book is close to 150 pages long with lots of data, graphs, ideas and theoretical concepts. The book carries out an extensive, holistic research about Sirmaur district located in Himachal Pradesh. The book has both primary and secondary research pertaining to this district, in addition to a special SWOC analysis-Econometric regression analysis, a set of 20 recommendations. All sources are from reputed, official and non controversial sources.Plaigarism percentage is less than 8%. Though there are a lot of technical-conceptual areas that have to be improved, but it would be visible from next project onwards. I sincerely appologise if there are errors(conceptual or technical) in the book. I would specially thank Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur, Prof. Smt Advaita Rajendra who guided me in this landmark project. Special thanks to Krishna Kanta Roy sir who suggested some technical changes which were incorporated later into the book. A note of gratitude to my parents, my grandfather, my akka and my venerated brother in law who helped me in this project. The foreword of the book has been authored by Shri. M Navyodai Kanth who has covered the details in the same. I hope that this research work of mine is of immense help to all relevant stakeholders to make the historic district of Sirmaur as a bustling economic zone which will have a key role in realizing our aspiration of Viksit Bharat by 2047. This is hopefully a start of small contributions from my end to realize this shared vision of ours as a country. Narendra Modi Attaching the link and relevant photos for reference. "One could call it submitting to the offerings of chance, we think it is a ritual of opening oneself to receive." "How one choses to engage with the environment is determined by how they relate to it." "Indulging in those moments of pause to try and see what they(the other) did so easily, opened my mind to noticing what I ordinarily do not." . . . And so many other gems in this feature which captures the essence of walking so succinctly. Check out this article to learn why the process of walking is so important to understand the complex interconnections between nature and society and the platform that Siddharth Agarwal has built to enable people to experience this process (also get a glimpse of the Luni Walk that me and 7 other fellows went on!) 🌸 Bonus points as the article also talks about some incredible work my teammates at Ooloi Labs have been doing with Veditum India Foundation around sand mining monitoring ☘ Agami #environment #walking #rivers #justice

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai, in partnership with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur and Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU) Bhilai, hosted a two-day conference on September 13 and 14. The event focused on discussing the “Implementation of the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit System (MEME)” and the “Academic Bank of Credit (ABC),” addressing their challenges and potential in Indian higher education. The panel discussions on NEP 2020 illuminated critical challenges in implementing MEME and ABC, such as faculty shortages and complex credit transfers. Experts emphasized solutions like robust MIS, standard degree names, and modular course designs. Key takeaways included nurturing institutional collaboration, enhancing faculty training, and integrating tribal knowledge into modern education. Prominent voices like Prof. Rajiv Prakash and Prof. Laxmidhar Behera highlighted aligning course structures with the Indian Knowledge System (IKS).

Indian Knowledge System blew my mind. It is like the cosmos, the more discovery of it, the vast it gets! Just a couple of days ago I presented a paper in an international conference on “The Preservation and Promotion of Indian Knowledge Traditions in the Contemporary Educational Landscape” hosted by the Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar spotlighting the theme ‘Bharatiya Knowledge Traditions: Continuity and Significance.’ This conference wasn’t just about academic discourse, it was a revelation. Some renowned literature scholars talked about the role of Integral Education, Vedas, Upanishads, and various texts in the context of current Indian Education System. It underscored that the Indian Knowledge System is more than a subject as it is a living legacy. This conference delved into the essence of IKS within the ‘New Bharat’, uncovering its dynamic elements shaping the contemporary world. Stay tuned for more insights and discoveries as we Journey together in the blended field of Digital world and literature.

https://lnkd.in/dAuhN33r In academia we should stop our mindless obsession with PhD for teaching. We all know about supermarkets where those can be acquired from and even when aspirants work hard to get one after years and doing for their guide what they shouldn't be doing otherwise, how precious is it to make them the best in the world? let's talk global. Not local. Think. Corporate professionals with more competence and experience and charisma can take a lot to the classrooms and do a far superior job to make young graduates employable. A doctorate in a hole in the wall institute can't and will never churn out high value employable grads.
