If you want to *really* get into AI, beyond prompt engineering or calling an API to send prompts to an AI, THERE WILL BE MATH. These slides, adapted from my recent presentations at SocialCode x Tampa, Civo Navigate North America 2024 and Austin Forum on Technology and Society, present a quick overview of the kind of math you should pick up.

Last week, #UBuffalo hosted the 18th International Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Conference on Web and Social Media! Over 300 researchers and practitioners worldwide represented more than a dozen fields — including machine learning, psychology, political science, the humanities and more. "The idea is to combine computational approaches with social science to tackle some of society's most pressing questions about how social media use affects society," says Kenneth Joseph, #UBSEAS professor and associate director of AI and Society within the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at UB.
