When I visited the #InVeST2024 conference for the first time in Hannover in 2015 I was working as a research assistant leading a skills lab at the veterinary campus Freie Universität Berlin. At that time, I could never have imagined that in a few years I would sponsor the same conference with my own company and that our products would be an enrichment for so many skills labs worldwide. 🏆 The Role of Tendiboots in Enhancing Equine-Assisted Services Research 🐴 🎉 Exciting new research, in collaboration with the School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas Tech University, is shedding light on the behavioral changes and discomfort that horses in Equine-Assisted Services (EAS) programs may experience over time. Horses in EAS programs are often retired prematurely due to behavioral issues or movement (gait) problems. This study, presented at the HETI Congress 2024, explores whether there is a link between uneven gait and behaviors like tail swishing or head tossing, which are often signs of discomfort or pain 🤕 📊 Researchers used Tendiboots to measure gait forces in each of the 22 EAS horses involved in the study. Over several days, they observed behaviors like tail swishing, head tossing, and biting, tracking any correlations. 🔎 The findings were striking: lower force in certain legs was directly associated with an increase in discomfort-related behaviors, suggesting possible pain or imbalance. 💡 Tendiboots has emerged as an invaluable tool for identifying subtle changes in gait, enabling early detection of discomfort in these horses 🏇 ℹ️ HETI (Horses in Education and Therapy International) is a global federation dedicated to fostering collaboration among organizations and individuals committed to advancing scientific, educational, and philanthropic objectives in the field of Equine-Assisted Services. 🫶🐴 #horse #equine #equinemedicine #horsetech #EquineAssistedServices
