Today Minister Paschal Donohoe published the Prospects 2024/2025 report which highlights 50 projects that make up Project Ireland 2040. This report aims to provide further visibility on Ireland’s priority infrastructure over the coming years, facilitating firms to plan commercial bids for these major infrastructure projects. “I’m very pleased to welcome the publication of Prospects 2024/2025. Prospects sets out a clear pipeline for 50 individual projects that make up Project Ireland 2040. We need the construction industry, in Ireland, the EU and internationally, to consider the role that they can play in delivering the projects outlined in Prospects. Ireland needs competitive, dynamic, and sustainable construction firms that can deliver high quality physical infrastructure.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqbe2-gy

📢 New research: 48% of construction companies have no or low involvement in public infrastructure projects according to a survey carried out by the Construction Industry Federation. The survey also showed that for 69% of contractors, public works contracts make up less than 50% of annual turnover. Paul Sheridan, CIF Director of Main Contracting said: "Construction companies are eager to scale up their efforts, but they must have certainty of a pipeline of new work and that tendering for major infrastructure projects prioritizes quality and efficiency over lowest cost and lengthy bureaucracy.” 🔎 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eyUk-HUF #construction #infrastructure #research #NDP

They already are bidding - so not sure what’s newsworthy here. Should be noted it’s not actually about construction - South Africa has a long history of very successful delivery of highly technical projects and that remains because of the can do attitude of our people- it’s more about about how to fund development - and what’s not transparent - ever- is the cost of the soft loans that come as part of the package that Chinese contractors offer- that’s a fact - I’ve heard them on site inspection visits boasting that their edge is the “finance” they bring to the table- the real cost to our country is hard to quantify but instant gratification has its price. So really it boils down to a lazy way of getting some funding to be seen to achieving something which actually in retrospect won’t benefit our people significantly - I am dispointed as I think better avenues to the much needed growth and development of our nation are desperately required and needed. We must not sell ourselves short when it comes to our abilities - we can do anything any other foreign nation can do.

I recently had the opportunity to share Concert Infrastructure's perspective and experience in successfully leading and delivery bundled school P3 projects across Canada, including most recently with the Government of Alberta, alongside our partners Bird Construction, Wright Construction Western Inc., BR2 Architecture, and Ainsworth Inc, with ReNew Canada. The public private partnership ('P3') delivery model remains viable and relevant particularly for social infrastructure projects across Canada. Private capital and disciplined project delivery remains an important accelerator of public infrastructure, particularly where governments face growing fiscal constraints, while bringing budget and schedule certainty as well as committed long-term investment in asset maintenance and renewal. Achieving high levels of investment in UK infrastructure has never been more critical than it is now. There are many economic, social and environmental benefits that the sector brings undoubtedly improve the lives of all citizens. The investment in infrastructure opens up regional employment opportunities across various industries: while many of these roles are in engineering, it is great to see that approximately 60% will be in the construction sector.
