€77m (£65m) of PEACEPLUS funding has been awarded to transform six community facilities and public spaces in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. Among the exciting and wide-ranging new cross-community initiatives to receive funding are the conversion of a former military barracks site into a sport, wellbeing and shared learning centre; the creation of a huge ‘Air Dome’ indoor arena in the North-West; and a significant investment at a North Belfast interface to enhance shared space and connectivity between local communities. Six projects were successful in their bids for investment through PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding). Thousands of people are expected to benefit from the new facilities when completed and it is hoped they will bring people together, promote better understanding and trust, and provide communities with improved services and infrastructure. Today I’ll be talking at UKREiiF about how we navigate political uncertainty as we prepare to connect the Midlands and Northern Regions, connect people to opportunity, and stimulate growth ▫️How do we harness the greater devolved powers to accelerate delivery and achieve the ambition of the #Northern and #Midlands regions? ▫️How do we address the funding gap from the reallocated #HS2 funding, along with Levelling Up funding and the City Regions Sustainable Transport Settlements enough to deliver the outcomes and benefits across the north? ▫️How do we create leadership and #Partnerships to align the focus towards a vision for the Regions as a whole? ▫️How do we foster stronger partnerships between public and private sector to deliver successful outcomes by managing uncertainty and complexity more effectively?

And finally, here are my thoughts re how ACVO can also be part of #keepthepromise
💛 ACVO TSI are working to #KeepThePromise in #Aberdeen by advocating for third sector services to ensure their voice is heard for the benefit of local families 💬 Georgette Cobban, Senior Development Officer (The Promise), says: “It’s important that we look at the whole family situation and provide support for children, young people and communities. ACVO, through our wealth of different services, is really supporting this in the third sector.” 👂 Listen and read more about how ACVO TSI are keeping The Promise in Aberdeen at https://lnkd.in/eBpicCCZ ℹ️ To find out more about how Aberdeen’s third sector is keeping The Promise, visit acvo.org.uk/keepthepromise The Promise Scotland | #ThePromiseScotland | #ThePromise

Sometimes you have to put your money and energy where your mouth is. For many years the state of inequities in regional communities has bothered me. I’ve tried many different projects and roles to address these yet found I couldn’t get deep enough into any of the challenges to create the change needed. In 2023 the first Social Impact in the Regions conference brought together 165 regional changemakers over three days in #coffsharbour. I didn’t wait for a grant and it broke even through sponsorship and ticket sales. More importantly it had a lasting impact on those who are deep in creating change in the regions. In 2024 I wanted to leave more of a legacy in the host community and in partnership with Chad Renando Ready Communities was birthed in the Macleay. We needed freedom to deliver a program that wouldn’t get stuck in red tape so again we didn’t wait for funding we just delivered. The outcomes are easily demonstrated through the conference which in 2024 grew to 246 delegates, generated $348k in the Macleay, activated a CBD space that had been boarded up for 4 years and shopped local spending most of the $99k conference spend with small businesses in the local and surrounding communities. The outcomes of the Ready Communities pilot (Ready Macleay) may seem more subtle at face value however it’s the connecting, advocating, capability development and clarity that this project delivers that really makes lasting change in communities. The main point being we set the framework and support the conditions but the community delivers the change and thereby forms less reliance on external forces. Our end of year report will be out soon follow ready communities or visit our website for more. #placebased #regionalaustralia
This week we’ve been in Canberra discussing what ‘place-based’ practice means in regional communities and sharing some of the learning from our Ready Macleay pilot and the two Social Impact in the Regions conferences. We were grateful for time with Kristy McBain MP and also staff from Minister Murray Watt and Senator Malarndirri McCarthy offices as well as some key people from Treasury where we learned more about current government supported initiatives in place. We will share our early findings soon in our end of year report. In the meantime sending thanks to everyone who has participated in one or both of the two #siitr conferences and of course our Ready Communities pilot in the Macleay. More very soon…

The Tesla Powerwall and SAVPP are teams making a real social impact and at the same time proving the technological capabilities of residential batteries connected in a "virtual power plant". These Powerwalls provide back up in case of grid outages, lower energy bills, and help provide stability services to the grid. In the very near future, it will be commonplace to see households with a battery, just like it is to see a dishwasher or an oven today.
In a class of its own, South Australia’s Virtual Power Plant by SA Housing Trust is the winner of the Social and Community Infrastructure Award! This world-first initiative combines new technology with existing infrastructure and public housing to create a genuine community asset that subsidises low-income tenant and benefits the broader community. City Bridge Foundation’s Anchor Programme has reopened for a second round of funding. The programme aims to provide long-term (7–10 years), core funding to second-tier organisations supporting London’s frontline groups. To receive funding, organisations will need to demonstrate a strong ongoing commitment to, and track record of, equitable practice. Organisations must also demonstrate that they are addressing the marginalisation and discrimination experienced by those with intersecting identities. The Anchor Programme has been co-designed with civil society organisations and aims to fund organisations with a core focus on systems change, in order to make London a fairer city. In this second round of the Anchor Programme, we have a funding pot of nearly £15m and we estimate that between 13–15 organisations will receive funding. Pre-application webinars are available at 1–2pm on Tuesday, 30 April 2024 and at 5–6pm on Wednesday, 1 May 2024. Initial Expressions of Interest can be submitted between Monday, 13 May 2024 and Monday, 3 June 2024, as part of a two-stage application process. Grand Bargain commitments are more relevant now than ever, particularly as we strive for locally-led humanitarian action. One of the core pillars of the IFRC's mandate is supporting the capacity development of our 191 National Societies. At today’s Grand Bargain Annual Meeting, we reaffirmed IFRC’s dedication to this mission, recognizing that there is no ‘one-size fits 191 National Societies’ approach. Through instruments like the Capacity Building Fund and the National Societies Investment Alliance, we are enhancing access to resources, enabling National Societies to address institutional capacity building and tackle identified technical gaps. Strengthening local capacity is essential for delivering effective and sustainable humanitarian responses.

ONTARIO HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY SUPPORT PLAN Appreciable efforts Premier Doug Ford May I suggest you an "Ontario Healthcare Emergency Support Plan" focused on reducing the wait time of patients in the Emergency sections of hospitals where patients have to wait for hours for their turn. Following should be the key pillars of the plan: ● Expanding and increasing the number of emergency facilities. And ● Increasing the numbers of healthcare personnel. The success of this plan will win you largescale public support.
Today was a busy day of getting it done for the people of Ontario! Check out what we did on Thursday, September 26: ✅ I attended this year’s National Peace Officers Memorial run to honour the legacy of our fallen officers. ✅ I joined Stan Cho, Olivia Chow and Live Nation Canada to unveil the plans for a new seasonal concert venue in Toronto which starting in 2025, will be a key attraction that’ll attract world-class performers and create more jobs. ✅ Victor Fedeli announced a $2 million investment in Futurepreneur Canada to help 300 young entrepreneurs start a new business, creating approximately 1,200 new jobs. ✅ Raymond Cho announced funding for Inclusive Community Grants Program projects that promote inclusivity and accessibility across the province to help people of all ages and abilities stay active, healthy and independent. ✅ Andrew Dowie spoke at the Excess Soils Symposium to talk about how it’s possible to rebuild Ontario’s economy while protecting our province’s environment. ✅ Rob Flack shared that applications are open for the Production Insurance Coverage for rye producers across Ontario, which will better meet farmers’ risk management needs.

At our joint breakfast with Conductor and KMDC at UKREiiF this morning, we engaged with a diverse group of minds from the real estate sector. The discussion revolved around opportunity out of advertising and with yesterday's announcement of the upcoming election there was naturally a focus on it's potential impact for housing. There was a strong consensus that a Labour government would likely be the successor. Participants expressed impatience and urgency regarding the delivery of more housing, noting that the one year timeframe stated in Angela Rayner's speech at the conference, to deliver new towns is too slow. The need for accelerated action and policy implementation was emphasised, with a particular focus on reforming planning policies to meet housing targets more swiftly. While Labour's vision to develop new towns across the UK received widespread support, there was a clear call for government engagement with the private sector. It was recognised that the public and non-profit sectors alone cannot meet the growing housing demands nationwide. The room advocated for a mixed-tenure approach, including social housing, Build to Rent, and market sales, to address diverse needs and speed up delivery. There was a sense of the industry being poised for action with optimism around change and a more cohesive approach particularly in London between the mayor and central government but some concerns over other local administrations who have both financial and political uncertainty. Additionally, the sector stressed the importance of open and honest collaboration between the private and public sectors. Innovative contributions from the private sector are deemed vital for the public sector to effectively meet housing needs and achieve climate targets and importantly a sense that the industry must make things happen rather than waiting for government intervention.
