Interesting to see economic growth being a top priority for the new Government; here's my take on it from a Local Government perspective with Matt Masters
In today’s episode, I sat down with Paul Woodcock, interim strategic regeneration, development, and place shaping advisor. Paul previously served as the Strategic Director of Regeneration and Environment at Rotherham Council. His responsibilities included overseeing economic development, environmental initiatives, and place-making strategies. During his tenure, he played a key role in shaping policies and projects that contributed to the borough’s growth and revitalisation. In this immensely interesting conversation Paul speaks about: · Economic Development and Industrial/Economic Strategy and what this could mean for Local Government and what are the opportunities. · How local authorities can put plans and strategies in place to grow the local economy and then how to implement these strategies. · The vital role of collaboration and the triple helix. · Finally, how to put these elements into a wider context, when creating beautiful places for local communities to enjoy. Specifically focusing on the importance of transport, residential, green spaces and culture & leisure in place making. https://lnkd.in/geZeFTWH

Davie County is accelerating economic growth through strong partnerships with state and regional economic development agencies, commercial real estate firms, site consultants, and local industries. These relationships support a coordinated approach that brings new businesses to the area by promoting existing shell buildings and “shovel-ready” industrial sites and leveraging the county’s strategic position in the Piedmont Triad. The historic nature of our main streets is often overlooked and underutilized in the realm of economic development, particularly within the municipal planning world. Historic preservation planning can be a game changer to invigorate rural downtowns and small business communities. And contrary to popular belief, historic preservation planning doesn't mean major restrictions on property redevelopment, down to the paint color of trim. What it is is the creation of a flexible plan to fit the needs of your community, a plan that creates a commitment and belief in the importance of maintaining the character of your community. #mainstreetmatters #downtownplanning #historicpreservation #adaptivereuse #heritagetourism #economicdevelopment #planningiscool

As I skimmed Billy Shore's "Letter from the Cathedral of Milan," two things stood out. The value of building personal relationships and community. Billy draws a parallel between Milan Cathedral's centuries-long construction and the strong development of communities. He notes that building solid relationships requires patience, dedication, and a common goal. My key takeaway from Shore's letter: 1. Relationships, like large structures, are long-term projects you must build gradually. 2. Like the cathedral builders, build something that will outlive you. 3. A strong foundation is vital in any endeavor you undertake. 4. When people come together, great things happen.
