At The Shift we have a focus on building community and support networks while giving participants/teams the tangible tools to make a difference to their wellbeing. Through my personal experience, first hand observation and the statistics of wellbeing struggles within our industry, I have built a program to help our workers take a a step towards a better future. If we want better builds, better outcomes and a better industry it starts onsite, it starts on the ground with our workers. Invest in the wellbeing of our workers and you invest in the future of the industry. I am working towards bringing The Shift into TAFE and to more companies onsite across our industry. There have been so many great outcomes for individuals and teams, inside the sessions but then continuing past that we have seen team units strengthen and develop in a multitude of ways. Better wellbeing means laying the foundations for this work to take place. Teaching people how to check in with themselves, how to communicate and build awareness around the controllable. Our wellbeing toolkit is more important and valuable than any other tool we have available to us on and off site!

Engaging in conversations about wellbeing is essential for fostering a supportive environment. One key aspect is the importance of understanding one another. When we approach discussions with kindness and empathy, we create a safe space for sharing feelings and experiences. Emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in effective communication. This involves being aware of our own emotions as well as those of others. By choosing our words carefully and being mindful of their impact, we can express ourselves in ways that resonate positively with others. Additionally, active listening is vital. It involves fully concentrating on the speaker, acknowledging their feelings, and responding thoughtfully. This practice not only validates their experience but also strengthens relationships. To enhance wellbeing conversations, consider: - Practice Empathy- Try to see situations from others’ perspectives. This can deepen your understanding and compassion. - Use "I" Statements- Frame your feelings and thoughts using "I" statements to express yourself without sounding accusatory (e.g., "I feel concerned when..."). - Be Open-Minded- Encourage diverse viewpoints. Acknowledging differing opinions fosters a culture of respect. - Encourage Feedback- Create an environment where feedback is welcomed. This helps individuals feel valued and heard. - Stay Present- In conversations, focus on the moment. This strengthens connections and shows that you care. By cultivating these skills, we can improve our wellbeing discussions, leading to healthier relationships and a greater sense of community. #RangerWellbeing ifaw Game Rangers' Association of Africa Game Rangers International International Ranger Federation European Ranger Federation The Thin Green Line Foundation

As a mom preparing to head back to work after baby #2, I'm eager to explore wellness solutions that can help me manage the mental and emotional load. That said, my big takeaway from this article is a passing statement in the third paragraph: "Workers who were given the opportunity to do charity or volunteer work did seem to have improved well-being." This is not surprising to any #csr practitioner who has organized a #dayofservice or recruited for a workplace mentorship program. When done well, corporate volunteer programs are truly magical in keeping employees happy, engaged, and connected to the company's mission. It's important for companies to invest in and support these programs to create a positive work environment for all employees. #workplacewellness #employeeengagement #corporatevolunteering

Wellbeing is slowly becoming an important priority across all workplaces, small businesses and community organisations. But while we can say it is a priority, are the strategies we are using to improve wellbeing authentic, or just superficial (and at times annoying). It is critical that when we consider wellbeing initiatives we think about what actually creates wellbeing. A good starting place is to actually consider whether you would be happy with the initiative as a worker or community member. Drop your thoughts on what wellbeing initiatives you have seen that you believe work well and what don't #mentalhealth #wellbeing #authenticstrategies #workplacewellbeing #communitywellbeing #communitymatters #thinkeffective

Focusing on wellbeing as part of the policy-making process is becoming more popular among governments, including Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, who want to move beyond economic prosperity as their sole objective. A new Research Brief from ANZSOG’s #TheBridge summarises research that looks at how we can do wellbeing policy better by developing a deeper understanding of what wellbeing represents and how it is measured. It outlines a four-step approach to doing wellbeing well – running through understanding your purpose, developing indicators, evaluation strategy, and reflection and innovation. #Wellbeing may be a nebulous concept, but we can do it in a systematic and intentional manner which should ultimately lead to a happier, healthier, and more prosperous community.
