🚫 Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is say "No" 🚫 In the bustling world of the restaurant industry, opportunities and distractions are always at our door. But let me share a piece of wisdom that's served me well: Saying "no" isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of STRENGTH. It's a declaration that you understand your goals and values, and you're committed to achieving them. Choosing what to reject is as vital as deciding what to pursue. Remember, every "yes" means a commitment of your precious time and resources. Make sure it aligns with your vision! Are you saying "yes" to things that truly matter to your restaurant's success? Or are you scattering your focus and diluting your efforts? If you need guidance to make the right decisions, I'm here to help! "Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become." - Jim Rohn I came across this powerful quote in an old journal entry from October 2019, and it resonated with me as much today as it did back then. Reflecting on my journey as a restaurant owner, I've realized that the growth and success of my business are deeply intertwined with my personal development. Running a restaurant isn't just about great food and excellent service. It's about leadership, perseverance, and continuous learning. Every challenge faced and every milestone achieved has been a direct result of the growth I've experienced as an individual. As I strive to attract and nurture talent for my restaurant, I remind myself that the foundation of a successful team starts with personal development. By focusing on becoming the best version of ourselves, we naturally create an environment that attracts success. To all the aspiring professionals and fellow business owners out there, let's prioritize our personal development. Our success, and the success of those around us, depends on it. How do you prioritize personal development in your career? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences! #PersonalDevelopment #Success #Leadership #RestaurantOwner #ProfessionalGrowth

Was able to catch Will Guidara live and in-person today thanks to the team at Visit Salt Lake. As I wrote last year, his book "Unreasonable Hospitality" is one of the most impactful business books I've read, and should be required reading for all leaders (I wrote more on that here: https://lnkd.in/eZYHZ6za). Today, Will espoused a lot more wisdom on the room, including these terrific thoughts to bring #UnreasonableHospitality to your own workplace and way of thinking: 1) People at the top have the authority. People at the bottom have the information. If you want greatness, you need to engage and listen to both ends. (For Guidera, this included closed door dinners with his restaurant staff, from dishwashers to ownership, to review every consumer touchpoint) 2) If you’re in the business of making people happy, your job is really to make as many little things more awesome as you possibly can. 3) When things go poorly, we watch the tape to see how we get better. When things go great, we need to learn to watch the tapes to make those accidental moments of brilliance more regular. 4) Be more present - slow down to speed up 5) Take what you do seriously but stop taking yourself so seriously 6) Find your own hacks and continue to redefine hospitality - it is about making other people seen. Don’t treat them as a commodity but as a unique group of individuals. #hospitality #leadership

This is one of my biggest realizations. 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀—𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 🏆 Danny Meyer's Setting the Table taught me that how we handle mistakes is far more important than the mistakes themselves. 💪 Instead of dwelling on errors, take a step back and see how you can turn setbacks into stepping stones. This shift in mindset can transform a simple apology into a powerful moment of connection. In the restaurant world, things go wrong—an order mix-up, a delayed service. You won’t be able to control everything. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱. That’s where real hospitality shines. 🌟 It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being human. Are you turning your slip-ups into standout moments? Drop them in the comments. Let’s chat about how we can elevate the guest experience, one connection at a time. Repost to inspire someone today! 🔄 #Hospitality #Leadership #CustomerExperience #DannyMeyer

🔪✨ "Sharpen the Saw" - A Lesson in Mastery and Preparedness ✨🔪 In Stephen Covey's seminal work, 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,' there's a profound analogy where a woodcutter, sawing for several days straight, becomes less and less efficient. When advised to sharpen his saw, he replies he's too busy sawing. This metaphor is a powerful reminder of the importance of continuous improvement and self-renewal, something I find particularly resonant in the culinary world. As chefs and business leaders, our 'saw' is the fundamental skill set we bring to our kitchen - the very essence of our craft. And what's more emblematic of a chef's fundamentals than the art of keeping knives razor-sharp? Swipe to see my collection of sharpening stones, each one a stepping stone to culinary excellence. These stones are not just tools; they are teachers of patience, precision, and the pursuit of perfection. They remind us that taking the time to 'sharpen our knives' - honing our skills, deepening our knowledge, and refining our craft - is what sets us apart in a fast-paced, cutthroat industry. In business, as in cooking, the sharpness of our blade reflects the sharpness of our practice. It’s a physical and philosophical commitment to quality that speaks volumes of how we operate and succeed. It's about having the edge, both literally and figuratively. So, whether you're dicing through the challenges of service or carving out a business strategy, remember the importance of preparation and continual learning. Take time to 'sharpen your ax,' invest in your growth, and approach each task with a keen edge and a keen mind. Let's embrace the art of sharpening not just our knives, but our business acumen. Stay sharp, stay curious, and keep cutting a path to success. #BusinessPhilosophy #SharpenTheSaw #CulinaryExcellence #ChefLife #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement

3 ways building my second brain is helping me provide more resources to hospitality leaders 1. Helps me capture all the important takeaways I learn from others that I can apply to my business 2. Helps me capture pain points of my clients so I can create content to better serve them 3. Improves the overall quality of the content I’m putting out by saving time and energy. Anyone else having success using their second brain? #restaurant #coaching #buildinganempire
