Exciting news! Public preview announcement of additional Conditional Access reauthentication scenarios. This feature enables customers to require their users to interactively provide their credentials again, typically before accessing critical applications and taking sensitive actions. With this public preview, customers can now require reauthentication for any resource protected by Conditional Access. The Microsoft Authenticator app has been reported to overwrite existing multi-factor authentication (MFA) accounts when users add new accounts via QR codes, leading to potential lockouts. This issue arises because Microsoft Authenticator uses only the username for account identification, unlike other apps that include additional identifiers like the issuer's name. Consequently, if a new account has the same username as an existing one, it can overwrite the previous entry, causing authentication problems. Users often do not realize that the issue lies with Microsoft Authenticator rather than the service they are trying to access, resulting in unnecessary helpdesk efforts. Workarounds include using other authenticator apps or manually entering codes instead of scanning QR codes. Despite complaints dating back to 2020, Microsoft has yet to address this flaw. The company maintains that the app functions as intended, placing responsibility on users and issuers for managing account labels. #Microsoft #MicrosoftAuthenticator #MFA https://lnkd.in/gesv2yDd

Parents beware. Microsoft Family Safety is not safe. As often happens in exploits, two or more issues, when stacked on top of each other, lead to "oops". (a) Kids can install any FREE app from Microsoft Store, because "Settings" only have one relevant switch, "Ask to Buy" but it is not enacted for any FREE apps like "browsers" search results in Store. (b) Web Safety filtering only works on OSI L7 (in Microsoft Edge), not on L5 as it should be, thus allowing any other apps (free browsers from Store) ANY connections. (a)+(b)=unsafe browsing, ~time waste Kids are up to this stuff and sharing knowledge. Solutions? File a feature request to ask for ANY new app installation, if you can, or Use Qustodio, even in free mode it seems to solve (b) by filtering on OSI Layer 5. You're welcome.

This is insane to me. Not that long ago, I volunteered with white hat hackers who discovered access to a hacker's failed test install (failed as in he forgot to remove it from his computer after testing it) of screenshot software that took an image of his screen every 30 seconds. The intel we found, over the course of several months, allowed my colleagues to track down criminal actors around the globe and passed it all along to officials in multiple countries. The fact that THIS very technology is being sold as a benefit to users is simply beyond me. I'll be spending the next 6-12 months (if I'm lucky) fully learning Linux and getting off the apple/microsoft pipelines. I suck at the technical nuances of running a full linux stack, but these corporation's failure to protect consumers from the ramifications of their own inventions as they race to commodify every aspect of our lives is just too much. I'm all for responsible AI and think it's a powerful tool to benefit humanity (until the bots take over)-- but this is definitely not responsible. Period.
Unless you want every password and financial transaction stored as a local screenshot, you'll need to exclude specific apps and websites from Microsoft Recall. https://lnkd.in/duAaHFZg

I've lost access to my Power BI account and have been trying to rectify the situation. I've read what MS recommends in such cases - this article makes it look like a piece of cake, when in fact it's not. Thing is, you need to be authenticated by the app to access your MS acc. And if you accidentally lost access to the app (like me, my android phone crashed), than you are in trouble, because to set up the app on the new device you need - guess what - be authenticated by the app. Which you can't do. Here is another link where people with the same problem as mine https://lnkd.in/dpSze-rs I've been trying to reach MS support by phone, also unsuccessfully. And to write to them you need - you guessed correctly - to log in! Never ending loop. Microsoft please help.
