You've heard of SSL, you probably know your company's website needs it. But what is it? Imagine sending a sealed letter through the mail. You want to ensure that it can only be opened by the intended recipient without anyone else peeking inside. An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate functions much like a security seal for websites. When you visit a website with an SSL certificate, it creates a secure, encrypted connection between your browser and the website, much like sealing your letter in an envelope. This encryption protects any sensitive information you send from being intercepted by unwanted parties. Having an SSL certificate is like having a verified badge on your envelope, reassuring the recipient of its legitimacy. This badge not only builds trust among users but also signals to search engines that your site is secure. Search engines prefer secure sites, often ranking them higher in the search results (all things considered). An SSL certificate is crucial in maintaining both security and credibility in the digital realm.
