Let’s talk perspective and #teamwork! Did you know Winston Retail also does pop ups AND retail stores? The number one question I am always asked is what do you do?! My 10 year old smiled as I walked out of the house today in something other than my work from home uniform. From hospital stays, costco trips, school events and leadership I enjoy every.single.moment. In reality I do it all! ☺️ Chaos is my daily, but perspective and perseverance trump all. When you land a role at a company that trusts you to soar anything is possible! Throwing on my retail managment hat and heading to a store threw things back into perspective today. I am simply thankful. I wake up everyday and connect with humans on my team. I am trusted to make an impact as a people leader not a manager. At Winston there are no boundaries. We show up, work dang hard and never look back. Think about how you precive something… why was your day hard, and what could you have done differently? Someone struggling on your team, pick up a shift or find solution. Share your struggles because I assure you 3 other people have a similar story. At the end of the day, choose your hard. You have the power to change your future and the trajectory of your career! I empower everyone to do something kind and see what response you get. ✨ #wearewinston #crossfunctional #perspective #teamwork #filaretail #winstonretail #chooseyourhard #wearehiring #joinmyteam #leadership #regionalmanagement

Traits that made me an excellent store leader. (Even though I wasn't always a dream for my DM). I said no. I'd question new directives. I'd negotiate store hours. I'd ask for more money for my team. I'd re-merchandise without asking. I'd ignore forms I thought were a waste of my time. (They were). I'd ask for special requests like getting merchandise transferred out. and I also Said "yes" to most of what was asked of me. Special projects. Remodeling stores. Training new leaders. Overnight shifts. Extra meetings. Training in nearby districts. Although I wasn't always a dream, we worked together like peanut butter and jelly. Because our work ethics were a match and we both knew that if the sh!t ever hit the fan, we'd both be there with rubber boots on to clean it up. Together. Find a boss like this. Be a boss like this. This is teamwork. #leadership #retail

Leaders who have made a lasting impact on my life and career, Day 1. Nicki Oetjen. Nicki, when I was working service desk at Target Onalaska and just becoming a Guest Service Assistant Lead, you were always one of the most inspiring people I ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. You are always incredibly kind and looking to get the best out of everyone. You taught me what it meant to take leadership to a personal level and make meaningful lasting relationships with my coworkers. Even the little things, no, especially the little things. On our late closing nights, after putting away carts of returns and go backs, you would always tell the whole team to go grab our favorite Little Debbie snack and you would use the store funds to purchase them at the end of the night. But it wasn't just the snacks. You would write a personal message on the boxes to each one of us thanking us for being there. I was never happier to take home a box of Oatmeal Cream Pies 😂 Then there were the late nights after closing that you would spend with me and other leaders letting us vent or laugh about the day. It's these things that will always stay with me. Thank you for always pushing me to be my best. Thank you for always believing in me. Thank you for being an amazing leader! #leadership #motivation #career #growth #inspiration

10 years ago, my job title changed. I was a “Store Manager” and I was told I would now be called a “Store Director”. I didn’t care, it was part of a merger and didn’t matter to me, my actual role to my associates didn’t change. So I ordered a new name badge. A mentor of mine reiterated this to me when he told me “there are a lot of Store Managers and a lot of Store Directors out there, what sets you apart is that you are a Team Leader and a Team Builder”. Fast forward to a couple years ago, when I changed companies. The vocabulary for employees and associates changed to “Team Members”. This name change mattered to me. I thought about the words of my mentor and knew that to get this right (and to use the right vocabulary) I had to believe it and my Team Members had to believe it. We needed to believe together that we were a team. Not because I declared we were a team, but because our goals, values and purposes aligned. And not simply that they are aligned, but achieved together. So this really did help me re-asses these words and align myself more effectively as a Leader. Today, my title is “Store Manager”, which still only matters to me because I know my role to my team remains to be a Team Leader and a Team Builder. The word “Team” matters, and what it means to be a Team Member is what really matters. At 16 I was promoted to a cashier supervisor at Kroger and faced hostility as a ‘leader’ for the first time. > I got my first (and to date ONLY) anonymous notes with insults > People selectively listened when I asked them to complete a task > Customers were convinced there was another superior when I came to resolve an issue This post could be about how unfair it was that I was treated this way. But it isn’t. Sometimes you’re the teacher, and sometimes you’re the student - seniority is irrelevant and people are complicated. I learned a lot in my first management role that set me up for the rest of my working life: > Respect is earned, not given. > Authority is shown, not demanded. > Leadership is proven, not assumed. These lessons shaped me into the leader I am today – one who understands that true leadership is built on trust, integrity, and dedication. I actually went on to be a Drug GM Manager at Kroger at 19, so it’s safe to say I definitely learned on the job successfully, but those first years were fundamental to me. What lessons in business did you learn from early work experiences?

Dealers and GMs... Want to hire and retain better talent? Want to set your team up for success in reaching and exceeding store goals? Do this: Understand that without the team, there is no business. The staff have families and life events that take place outside of work. Respect and understand this. Give back to them with the time they need to have closer connections with their families. You're going to have : ✔️ a more well-rested and energized work-force ✔️ better productivity among all staff ✔️ employees who are actually excited to go to work at your store ✔️ word-of-mouth referrals for more great talent and customers If your store can't come together, keep everything running smoothly, and continue hitting goals when team members need to take time off... that's a leadership problem. #autodealers #leadership #teamwork
