One of the most valuable pieces of advice I can share in today’s data-driven environment is this: if someone gives you a story, content, metrics, KPIs, data... look at it differently. Critical thinking is a thing. Too often, executives and entrepreneurs accept information at face value. Yet, the art of collecting information and contextualizing it for an audience is not just challenging; it's essential. In the past year, the surge in data and AI utilization has seen many organizations inadvertently adopt 'other people's context.' This is evident across SAAS platforms, press releases, investment decks, and dashboards, which often fail to disclose the full intent of what the data omits. Consider LinkedIn as an example. How many valuable conversations do you miss? How many potential engagements go unnoticed? What are people in your community or organization truly discussing? Relying solely on LinkedIn’s algorithm to deliver news means that your consumption of information is largely shaped by its business model, which prioritizes engagement that boosts ad sales more than it benefits your knowledge or network. It's time to reflect on YOUR context.
