We’ve announced new winners from the Manufacture of Advanced Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (MAKE IT) Prize! The MAKE IT Prize aims to catalyze the domestic manufacturing of critical energy technology components and enable manufacturing development at the regional level. $1.75 million in cash prizes have been awarded to winning teams from the Facilities and Strategies tracks of the competition so far. Congratulations to our recent winners!🏆 🎉 Nine Facilities Track Primary Timeline Phase 1 winners each took home $500,000 for their plans to develop manufacturing facilities for components used in clean hydrogen infrastructure, electric grid updates, long-duration energy storage, or carbon capture. Just announced, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is investing $50M for the demonstration of DERs (distributed energy resources) across three projects. #DERs like fleets of distributed batteries add flexibility, reliability, and energy security to the grid, fulfilling the needs of the rapidly changing electricity demand and supply markets. “By utilizing distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), utilities can combine the established energy generation resources of participating consumers, then optimize and manage their use in real-time to support safe, reliable, and affordable grid operations. CPower Energy Brings Customer Flexibility to New York’s First-in-the-Country Distributed Energy Resource Integration Program. As the first registered aggregator, CPower will bid virtual power plants into the New York DER Participation Model, allowing NYISO to unlock benefits for the grid through customer distributed energy resources.

"Meeting utilities’ three core objectives of providing clean, reliable, and affordable power is more challenging than ever before. From a clean perspective, reliability and affordability considerations challenge the ability to quickly integrate large amounts of clean energy into the grid. From a reliability perspective, clean energy integration creates challenges to grid stability, requiring technical solutions and new capital investments to manage the impacts. From an affordability perspective, both clean energy investments and system reliability investments contribute to upward pressure on rates, challenging utilities’ ability to maintain affordable rates for customers. Through a three-part series, we will look at how integrated system planning (ISP) helps utilities manage these conflicts better than traditional planning processes used by the majority of utilities today. This first article in the series focuses on how ISP supports the utility objective of maintaining affordability for its customers."
