Honored to be a part of this - bringing together two of my favorite things…. New Orleans and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Plenty of need in the Big Easy and tons of potential to unlock in these kids. Thank you to you the NFL and the New Orleans Saints!
For more than a decade New Orleans was the ONLY major city with no Big Brothers Big Sisters…UNTIL NOW! This past week, we returned to NOLA for an incredible moment recognizing our first Big and Little match, Angie and Skye, made since before Hurricane Katrina that saw the loss of many valuable community organizations including ours at the time. And just like the city itself, Angie and Skye’s vibrant, resilient, and inspiring relationship is a rebirth of our mission to serve young people who need us most across the community. And none of this could have happened without more than a year of listening and collaborating with the local community--grassroots organizations, government officials, schools, colleges, companies, volunteers, donors and most importantly, young people. Thank you to the New Orleans Saints who have helped lead the way for our return and hosted a community gathering of 200+ people for an evening at Benson Tower that was simply magical. And Big Ups to Dennis Lauscha, President of the Saints and Pelicans who gave one of the most moving speeches about the need for Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame Legend Aeneas Williams NOLA native who has been an amazing champion for our cause. And this work has also been made possible because we have a visionary BBBS leader and organization in a neighboring community who stepped up to get things started. HUGE THANK YOU to Kalli Christ and the entire board, staff and volunteers at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana. And huge kudos the entire Big Brothers Big Sisters of America board and staff including the leadership of Tim Ellis and Dave Clark. I will be sharing more in the days and months to come but our collective vision is to have a fully sustainable Big Brothers Big Sisters up and running by 2025 to serve the broader community. And we know we can’t do this alone. It takes a village to help lift a community and if you are interested in lending your talent, time and donation to help support the effort check out the link here: https://www.bbbs.org/nola/ Together, we can do BIG things. Let’s go! #biggertogether #ittakesavillage #NOLA
