After working with nature:
90% of schoolchildren felt they learned something new about the natural world.
84% felt that they are capable of new things when they try.
79% felt that the experience could help their schoolwork.
Outdoor space is a major priority for schoolchildren - especially in city boroughs: providing access to outdoor education, significantly reducing the impact of air pollution and increasing local biodiversity… Plus growing food for the school kitchens!
As part of their #GreenerFutures Westminster investment programme: Grosvenor gathered over 180 employee volunteers for this year’s #TheBigHelpOut2024. Over a remarkable few months, they have created vibrant outdoor spaces for five Westminster primary schools: St Mary’s Bryanston Square, St Gabriels Primary, St Vincent's Primary, Essendine Primary and the St Marylebone CoE Bridge School.
During this initiative, 830 metres of wood was loving transformed into flower beds, planters and outdoor seating. Food and plants were cultivated, outdoor areas painted, facilities prepared, enough soil to fill half the Trafalgar Square fountains was installed - and an orchard was created!
Over the last three years, Grosvenor have partnered with us at Groundwork London to help deliver green initiatives in Westminster and create jobs for more than 60 people. We are proud to provide the tasks, materials, tools and ecological expertise to bring their green space goals to fruition.

As we conclude this year’s Big Help Out summer volunteering programme, we’re proud to share the impact we've made. Over the past few months, 181 volunteers contributed a combined total of 1,358 hours to restoring outdoor areas in five Westminster schools.
Together with Groundwork and Westminster City Council, we’ve improved 2,410 sq m of land, planted over 1,000 new trees, and helped nearly 900 children reconnect with nature.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this programme a success.
