!! 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 !! Hello everyone! Hope you all are doing great. I just wanted to share my observations. I know this is not a topic for linkedin but as linkedin is public platform and many people are connected with it. So I think we all need to share, understand and do our part in this matter… In recent months, we all have witnessed a troubling increase in violent strikes and acts of violence across the globe. From civil unrest to conflicts and targeted violence, the impacts are significant, affecting communities, economies, and international relations. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: The effects on local communities are profound. Families are being displaced, daily life is disrupted, and the stability of entire regions is under threat. The resulting fear and instability make it difficult for societies to progress and recover. 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘁: The economic consequences are also far-reaching. Businesses face interruptions, supply chains are affected, and investor confidence can wane. In areas experiencing conflict, economic instability often leads to deeper poverty and prolonged recovery challenges. 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀: The humanitarian impact is devastating. Beyond immediate casualties, there are long-term mental health effects and broader crises that need urgent attention. Relief organizations and governments are often overwhelmed, highlighting the need for effective and coordinated responses. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: Effective leadership is crucial right now. Governments, international organizations, and local leaders need to work together to address the root causes of violence, support affected communities, and foster dialogue and reconciliation. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: As global citizens, we each have a role to play. Staying informed, supporting humanitarian efforts, and promoting peaceful dialogue are ways we can all contribute to making a difference. The rise in violence around the world is a serious issue that requires our collective attention and action. These #problems are often exacerbated by systemic #corruption, #political instability, and underdeveloped #infrastructure. In response, #governments, #NGOs, and granting #organizations frequently initiate social #interventions to address these pressing issues. 👥What are the impacts of #SocialProtection on #SocialCohesion in the #Sahel? #SASPP, UNICEF, and the World Food Programme have launched a joint research project to identify how social protection programs can be tailored to maximize the potential of positive impacts on social cohesion, particularly in fragile contexts like the Sahel.     ❓What is social cohesion? Social cohesion are the relations among society and with the state, including trust, an inclusive identity, and working together for the common good. Social cohesion works horizontally and vertically to bond, bridge, and link relations within and across society:    🔸Horizontal Cohesion 👉 relations within and across groups and communities.  🔸Vertical Cohesion 👉 relations between citizens and their government, locally or nationally.    🔎 Why is social cohesion important in the Sahel? #poverty, #vulnerability, and #shocks have weakened social bonds and fueled conflict in the Sahel, worsened by #ClimateChange. Better understanding how social protection can boost social cohesion is vital to tackling these interconnected challenges:    ➡️ #SafetyNets can help build society’s trust in their governments by fostering social inclusion, integration, and accountability, essential in fragile contexts like the Sahel.  ➡️ Cohesive societies can be more resilient to shocks.  ➡️ Social cohesion can improve development impact, by bolstering communities’ collective decision-making capacity to agree on how public goods are created.  ➡️ Cohesive societies have been proven to be more peaceful. In this first phase, the project outlined a conceptual framework and identified the current state of evidence and knowledge gaps on the effects of social protection on social cohesion in the Sahel.
