At Lincgreen Prospect, we prioritize telling stories. We understand that many people are unaware of the extent of the damage climate change inflicts on communities. We've witnessed it firsthand. In Bayelsa, I met a woman who lost her beloved son to flooding—he drowned right in their house, and there was nothing she could do. The flood is over, but now they must cope with their losses and damages. They need to find seeds to start planting again, uncertain if they or their crops will survive until the next flood. They struggle with illness and inadequate healthcare, living for immediate survival and in fear of tomorrow, often facing this alone. As we engage in global stocktake and review loss and damage finance, we need to tell these stories. We must properly evaluate the level of damage and be honest about our interventions, ensuring they are targeted towards the people and not just symbolic gestures. The pain of these communities, once felt, won't leave you unchanged. And it could get worse. At the #Lookbeyondoil conference, Ingmar Rentzhog mentioned that we need to move the money away from fossil fuel, Parvana Valiyeva also mentioned that we need to prioritize the vulnerable communities in other to attain climate Justice, Dr Renuka Thakore Representing Global Communities spoke about the need for stakeholders to collaborate in other to be wholesome in our quest for Climate Justice. As we advocate, develop models, invent technologies and try to mitigate climate change; we must do this with THE PEOPLE in mind. This would fuel our passion and relentless efforts as we understand that Truly #wedonthavetime ClimaTalk European Environmental Bureau United Nations UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency EU Environment and Climate YOUNGO #heartbeat #lincgreen #lossanddamagefinance #nigerdeltacrises #africanclimatestories

📚 Recommended reading on the new report by PIK and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification 👇 “Land is threatened by the way that we use and manage it all over the world, and human activities are the main driver behind land degradation,” says PIK scientist Julia Tomalka, author of the UN report, in this article by Mongabay: 💻 https://lnkd.in/d4d6zDGu “Policymakers should strengthen their focus on land as a cornerstone of global sustainability. Neglecting land degradation risks pushing humanity beyond its safe operating space, exacerbating resource pressures, poverty, migration, and conflict. Policymakers must address both the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of land use,” says PIK scientist Claudia Hunecke in conversation with The Guardian. “The interconnectedness of land use with the Earth system and human livelihoods can act as an important lever to achieve sustainability goals.” 🗞️ Full Guardian article: https://lnkd.in/dnPurkvv 📖 For further insights, take a look at the full report: https://lnkd.in/d72t4RaV #COP16Riyadh

#NatureBasedSolutions 🌼🌳 (NBS) remain dramatically underfunded. To meet #climate, #biodiversity and #environmental #restoration targets, the US$200 billion per year currently invested in #NBS (public and private funding) needs to be tripled by 2030, and quadrupled by 2050. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dhyGcwb2

We live in a world of fractal, metastasizing crises. Armed #conflict, humanitarian emergencies, forced displacement, rising #energy and food #prices, democratic decay, institutional paralysis, and spiralling national #debt are all being compounded by climate change, biodiversity loss and rising inequality – the so-called "#polycrisis". Yet despite these escalating threats – or perhaps because of them – we also live in a moment of transition. Around the world, we can see glimmers of systemic, structural shifts in the way economies and societies are functioning, evidence of the new world struggling to be born. Have you read our interview with Tree Aid's Tom Skirrow yet? He talked to us about how poverty and the effects of climate change impact the lives of more than 300 million people in the drylands of Africa’s Sahel. Temperatures have increased by around 1% since the 1970s in the Sahel, and are projected to increase by a further 3% to 4% by the end of this century – potentially double the global forecast rise. This degrades arable land and increases food insecurity in a place that's already one of the most vulnerable. Tree Aid works with local communities to grow trees that help improve incomes, restore and protect land, and provide enterprise opportunities. 🌱 Investing in Nature-based Solutions (NbS) is critical for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and coastal communities 🌎 Did you know that NbS have the potential to reduce climate hazard intensity by 26%, with potential cost savings of USD$104 billion by 2030 and USD$393 billion by 2050? We must invest in coastal and ocean NbS to provide vital adaptation solutions, improve resilience for the communities that need it most, and enable financial support for low-income communities facing the brunt of climate change impacts. This is where Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance comes in. We are the only multi-sector collaboration connecting the international finance and insurance sectors, governments, non-profits, and stakeholders from the Global South to pioneer finance and insurance products that incentivise investment into coastal and ocean NbS. Some key benefits of coastal NbS include protecting communities, restoring habitats, supporting livelihoods, capturing blue carbon and providing cost-effective adaptation. At #ORRAA, we aim to activate $500m in coastal resilience investment by 2030, helping build the resilience of 250 million climate-vulnerable coastal people. “Much of the current $2.7 trillion per year invested in infrastructure globally is not properly factoring in physical climate risk and this risks locking-in higher risks for decades to come. These costs fall most heavily on the poorest, leading to loss of income and access to basic services that can set back poverty alleviation.” It's a sad truth that the communities affected most by #climatechange are the ones that did the least to cause it. The Howden Foundation is committed to supporting those communities. Yesterday, we announced a multi-year partnership with Dr Nicola Ranger and her team at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), University of Oxford, to provide communities with the tools to help them appraise #infrastructureinvestment through a #climaterisk lens. The J-ADAPT toolkit will be fully open and will ensure that everyone can access the same information about risks driving choices that support a more resilient future. #ClimateChange #ClimateSolutions #ClimateJustice #ClimateResilience #ClimateAdaptation #ForceForGood

We recently celebrated Earth Day. Does World Vision care about climate change? YES! Watch this video below to understand how much we care and what World Vision is doing about it! #earthday #climatechange
How can underground forests transform children’s lives? The answer is fascinating! As we mark #earthday, I want to share what I’ve learned about “Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration”, or #FMNR. In the past decade, we’ve re-greened and restored millions of acres of land with this technique. The results are incredible! Put simply, this is all about re-growing trees and shrubs from felled tree stumps, with huge environmental benefits – as well as nutritious food for children, and countless other advantages. It’s low cost and creates resilience to climate extremes and fighting poverty and hunger at the same time. World Vision does this in East Africa, Australia, Latin America and Middle East with amazing results. The inspirational Tony Rinaudo told me exactly how it works. #climateaction #sustainability #environment #innovation #foodinnovation #climatechange #globalgoals #worldvision
